| | | Fucking hell, the list I wrote in the other thread is gone. I shall try to recreate it.
Some of these might seem obvious but I really can't omit them.
Running With Scissors, Dry, Magical Thinking, and Sellevision by Augusten Burroughs (this man's life is fascinating)
God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (this is worth the hype in my opinion)
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (simply amazing)
Not the End of the World by Kate Atkinson
Into the Forest by Jean Hegland
And the Ass Saw the Angel by Nick Cave
Random Family by Adrian Nicole Blanc
Girls In Trouble by Caroline Leavitt
White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh
Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Finally, if you're after something short and sweet that's still well-written, I'd recommend anything by Francesca Lia Block. |

| | | Ooh, I didn't get in on this thread the last time.
Everybody says Lolita, but I highly recommend: Despair - Vladimir Nabokov
It's difficult to get into because the narrator is just such a douchebag, but it's totally, totally worth it. My favorite Nabokov book, hands down.
Also: Jennifer Government - Max Barry
or Syrup - Maxx Barry
It's the same guy. He started his career with the double x to be funny, but everyone took him seriously so he dropped it. They're really fun, quick, post-modern, anti-corporation novels. I love his books, they're like my candy. |
