I Stopped Reading

Well, for the most part. I read a lot about art because of the research I do and just my general interest in the subject.

I stopped reading fiction after my first semester of college. Sure, every summer I'd pick up a sappy romance novel or two-- paperbacks from the rolling rack.

I'm 26 now and I haven't picked up reading again. Has this happened to you? I'm starting to feel self conscious about it. Like I am somehow against culture and learning.

I barely read non-fiction. Its become restricted to holidays only. Which is a shame because I enjoy it when I do but the only time I have for reading at the moment is in bed and I don't really want to be reading facts in bed, I want something lighter. If I read non-fiction in bed I can't sleep afterwards because it makes my brain too awake.

Its quite embarrassing, because people will lend me non-fiction, and then they ask about if 6 months later and I still won't have got around to it. I keep making it a resolution to make more time for reading non-fiction and yet it just doesn't happen unless I'm on holiday and have all the time in the world to read and nothing else.

That's another thing-- I kind of hate it when people recommend books to me? YOU TOTALLY HAVE TO READ THIS. Ack, get away from my face. Fact books are only good if they have good pictures in them, as many art books tend to do.

my problem is I'm either fully engaged or not engaged at all. and it's a bit too much of a routine switch sometimes so I go off reading for ages and it takes something really good to get me back into the swing, and then they eat up all my time and I stop because I'm too busy or I get to a **** one and can't be arsed finishing it and again it takes me ages to get back into it.

you should read comics pabs if you feel that way about pictures.

I go through phases of not wanting to read at all, but my main problem is that often I'll read for the sake of reading then get to the end and realise that I haven't actually taken in anything that I've just read. I have major concentration issues.
