I tried to read the golden notebook but I just couldn't get into it. Sorry Bort. I am ashamed to say I cannot contribute to this thread. I have read more than 10 books but I don't have 10 favourites. I am picky obviously.

I do like Margaret as well. But as a person I don't find her quite as warm as Doris, so maybe the hanging out wouldn't go as well. But definitely read the autobiography. Under My Skin is the best autobiography I have ever read, if that's the one you have.

Oh well, it's not for everyone. But you should maybe try a few short stories? I think the way she writes is amazing, there's just something about it that can draw me in to the most seemingly mundane story. Though most of her stories are not mundane, I find.
