| | | I have it, I reckon it's worth the buy. The interview with Courtney is quite good, she comes off as really serious and interesting. It struck me how what she had to say on the spur of the moment was so intelligent and compelling, and the little peices of information she discloses are fascinating.
I got the feeling from Debbie's introduction that she wasn't really into it at all. It was as though writing the introduction was something that had been on her To Do list. Not very interesting at all.
Just thought I might add that there's a picture of Courtney in it sitting on her hotel bed, and she's wearing the most beautiful silk nightdress. She looked so elegant, warm and comfortable that it just really put me "at ease" reading the interview with that image of her. I could really "feel" the atmosphere that must have been in the room during the interview. It was nice. |

| | | courtney's interview is an essential read. its from when she was on tour with NIN.
i had nina and louise from VS sign my copy...louise corrected the lyric from 'spiderman 79' from 'tiny trunk stop' to 'tiny truck stop'.
great book. |

"Hi Pam (Pam Hogg, Scottish singer-songwriter, fasion designer). How are things in the dark doll house?"
"Vert good, thanks", she says. "I'm calling about a women-in-rock book I'm gonna be in by Amy Raphael. She wants to call you about possibly writing an intro for it."
"Oh no, not another one" I said.
As you can see, I agreed to do the foreword. Soon after, I recieved my Fed Ex package with chapters from the book and a casette tape with selections of music by some of the female artists. I then went ahead and started reading what the girls had to say for themselves. Each life so different and similar and intriguing. And me obliged by experience to read on and into their stories and revelations and struggles. Fascinated and disgusted by similarities I've overlooked or overcome in my own stupid struggle. Don't struggle.
Ride on, rock bitches, ride on rock. I can't be responsible for this, can I? I mean I took some bits out and put some back in and maybe I didn't work hard enough . . . but I did. And so we go round to ride on rock bitches, give it back, take it out, need it some more and press on. The beautiful twins. The matching fats that suckle desire. Those two sisters who make you lose your concentration and then chase the chaser. Perpetual motion, the alchemical dream machine. And the physicist's proof - the event of the universe. Ride on rock.
My intro. My my. Here they come, the wet ones, the pools and swampls and warm currents of insistence - cold currents of existence. Surf's up. Tide is high. Out at night for your insight. Shake your tambourine. Shake your moneymaker. Shake it, baby, shake it. I like listening to and seeing live bands and going to the movies. Other than that, it's my business what I do with my time life. Let's keep some bits mystery in our souls. Men are not women. Viva la Diva. All that image studd becomes marketing as soon as you sign a deal. You are in showbiz; live with it or fight it, it's just not gonna go away. Once you accent a few fundamentals, you're home free. Enjoy the biz.
Enjoy yourselves.
Enjoy the book. Deborah Harry
