But still, I thought the whole apocalyptic premise of the book was a bit... played out. Yes, utopian visions can go horribly awry. |

Also: I am now a High School English teacher! Eeeeeeeeeeeeek. I start teaching (variously) Debating, a film study, 1984 and a research project on Monday. So I guess I had better go away and come up with some better ideas on this topic, show I'm up to the task... |

| | Congratulations! Lots of good people are high school English teachers. I was brought up by one, so I should know.
Good luck with your lesson plan! I'm sure you'll wow them. Just be tough and don't let those snot nosed kids take advantage. |

| | | For some reason I have this image of you singing that song from the Sound of Music... I have confidence
They'll put me to the test!
But I'll make them see
I have confidence in me.
Somehow I will impress them.
I will be firm, but kind.
And all those children,
Heaven bless them
They will look up to me
And mind me!

| | | books have bad ending because you need to be a fucked up person in order to write a book... or to write a good book... at least, most of the time.
and so fucked up people, who often have thought of killing themselves, just kill characters in books instead.
if all the characters stay alive, then the author commits suicide.
it's simply true. |
