for funny, you absolutely have to read a confederacy of dunces, it's the funniest book ive ever read, and one of the best

A Confederacy of Dunces (Penguin Modern Classics): Amazon.co.uk: John Kennedy Toole, Walker Percy: Books

for fantasy, i would recommend the end of mr y, which i know a couple of people have read here and liked too

The End of Mr. Y: Amazon.co.uk: Scarlett Thomas: Books

as a random recommendation, maybe try special topics in calamity physics, it's sort of a murder mystery and quite readable. good airport book, or reading at lunch at work book - not too tasking but fun

Special Topics in Calamity Physics: Amazon.co.uk: Marisha Pessl: Books

Yes, i'm up for trying anything. I just fancy something light hearted and something that isnt too taxing (ive just moved to London so it would be mainly be for commuting!)

*the funniest thing you never said (extensive collection of humorous quotes about just about anything) a bit big for travelling though. :s
*all ears (it's a collection of columns from the Guardian Saturday booklet about tv etc. the guy jots down conversations he overheard while out and about. so you can dip in and out easily.
*frank beddor's looking glass wars and seeing redd are based on lewis caroll's tale but with a more gothic edge, i think. really good.
*they said there would be cake by sloane crossley- nothing to do with the intrigueing title, it's a ny girl's collection of essays, being invited to the wedding of a high school friend you haven't spoken to in years, going vegan.. it was featured in the book club here, too.
