Have you ever used a book club as a cover story for an affair?

I haven't, but I bet a lot of chicks do shit like this.

Guys not so much, because their partners (women or gay men) are likely to inquire about the book or may even ask to join the club too.

Not to be grossly stereotypical, but most men don't read and if they do, they don't give a shit about the garbage their wives read. Lushy academic couples being the exception.

It's the perfect cover story, because the guy will be too scared to ask questions, lest he actually have to hear about White Oleander.

Loads of people read. It's just that some of them read shit. Don't over-generalise. You are not every woman. It's not all in you. But yes, a book club would be a good cover. I want to join one. But not for an affair.

I was part of one (not for an affair, of course). I do read a lot, but I personally find book clubs incredibly boring. I am more of a talker than a listener (no surprise there), and I don't have the patience to hear others' comments.
