Thumbs up Teen/YA Fantasy Books--recs? Likes? Hates?

I'm not in this demographic but I have been very tired and unhappy here lately and am finding a lot of enjoyment- not necessarily deep literary thinking- in escaping into some YA fantasy. You know, the genre that's getting a lot of attention after Twilight, as if Twilight started it? sigh...

Anyway ...I want some recs. Just entertaining reads, nothing deep. it is what it is. However, I will say, despite the flaws, I have enjoyed my readings thus far.

I LOVE <3 Kelley Armstrong- I discovered the Darkest Powers trilogy, only 2 of which are released- The Summoning and The Awakening, with The Reckoning coming in May. Actually good stuff- it has led me to start Bitten, and the rest of the Otherworld (adult) series. I am digging the werewolves better than vampires of late. I recommend this as one of the better series out there right now that I am aware of. The Darkest Powers has necromancers, werewolves, sorcerors and witches, shamans- but no vampires.

It has some probs but I also rather enjoy Alyson Noel's Evermore. The Immortals series. There are also only 2 books released from these so far. All of the above have rather decent audiobook narrators as well so are on my iPod. Evermore is fairly interesting in that the lead character, Ever, keeps dying (but doesn't know it) time and time again, and an immortal, Damon, is in love with her and tries to save her over the centuries so they can be together. Immortals are not vampires but need a cliched red "energy drink" to keep their powers. Ever gets a chance to go back in time, should she save her immortal soulmate Damen or her family who all died in the accident that killed her for a minute as well, until someone saved her?

Ok so can anyone comment on these other books I have not read or recommend others?

1. I forget it's name- sheesh. I think there are 2 out now...it's about faeries...um....Wicked Lovely? That's it. Is this good or appalling? I hear both.

2. Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series....PC Cast's vampire series...Anita Blake vampire series (adults), the Sookie Stackhouse novels which I ahve tried to read the first one but can't get past the first few chapters...which are the better of the vampire books out now? (I know--read the master, Anne Rice).

3. While not supernatural or fantasy...I have also been reading teen reads such as Jodi Picoult and Sarah Dessen. What are there best and worst books? My problem with Sarah Dessen is that all of her books are so so sweet, and the same basic formula. But I have been able to finish them without boredom, so here lately that says something.

Now Jodi Picoult...To me is not a 5 star author, she veers between 2/3 to 4 at her best. I think The Pact, My Sister's Keeper, and Nineteen Minutes have been the ones that at least engaged me. None of them are 5/5 stars...at her best she is a 4 from me. I am currently reading the one about the lady who owns the search and rescue dog and helps find missing people and has just found out that her dad kidnapped her when she was little as he's been arrested for it. Vanishing Act I think? I don't know yet if I like this one...I was bored by Keeping Faith and could not engage. Any other Picoult recs? She is not one of my favorites but some are ok to kill time with, if just once.

Any other YA recs whether supernatural or not?

Oh man. I totally thought I invented that idea about Vampire Academy. Damn.

And your second sentence quoted above made me chortle. You just know she's searching for her name on the internets, and will be very happy with you.

Picoult's last two books were okay. "Handle with Care" deals with a little girl that suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta and "Change of Heart" deals with organ donation, capital punishment and religion.

I read the PC Cast books on my cousin's Kindle. She calls her supernatural characters "vampyres" but it came off as much more Wiccan. The books killed a few hours on a long car trip but were not at all that memorable.
