| | | Catcher In The Rye is a great book full stop, i re-read it the other week (i'm twenty) and enjoyed it just as much as i did as a teenager. The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird are the other two massively popular books which should be read. Don't read The Da Vinci Code, it will get you in the habit of reading poorly written, unemotional, unrewarding crap. |

The secret History by Donna Tartt, i ALWAYS recommend donna tartt books <3
I thought Lunar park was good as well, Bret Easton Ellis's new book, it confused me at the start because i thought it was an autobiography..
I'm sure there's tonnes more that I would recommend if I could only remember what they were..
I've never read Catcher in the Rye either, I never thought it would be the sort of book that would interest me. Is it really that good? |

| | | The poem is the best Coming Through The Rye
by Robert Burns
Coming thro' the rye, poor body,
Coming thro' the rye,
She draiglet a' her petticoatie
Coming thro' the rye.
O, Jenny's a' wat, poor body;
Jenny's seldom dry;
She draiglet a' her petticoatie
Coming thro' the rye.
Gin a body meet a body
Coming thro' the rye,
Gin a body kiss a body -
Need a body cry?
Gin a body meet a body
Coming thro' the glen,
Gin a body kiss a body -
Need the warld ken?
I can never remember if the book was based on the poem or the other way around....

| | | I'll reiterate my summer reading.....
naomi klein .... NO LOGO (okay, it got kind of tedious an boring near the end)
simone de beauvoir... Les Belles Images (its in english... and hard to get into a first but its pretty good once you do.)
margaret atwood ... the handmaid's tale & cat's eye. Handmaid's tale is a bit dreary, so is cat's eye at times. Both pretty good reads, but i prefer the latter.
alex haley... roots. Loved this book, a classic.
john steinbeck... east of eden. Ok now im into fall and still not done this one. But so far its amazing, an incredible book. |

| | | The Ice Storm, by Tom Moody. Excellent, despite occasional unnecessary prurience.

| | | Battle Royale by Koushun Takami - not the manga (though i've heard it's good) - the actual novel - it's AMAZING.
