I'm from Ireland and I'm eighteen years old.

The texts I studied in secondary school were:
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Pearl by John Steinbeck
Othello
The Merchant of Venice
Philadelphia, Here I Come! by Brian Friel

We also studied the poetry of John Dunne, Robert Frost, Sylvia Plath, Adrienne Rich, Philip Larkin, Derek Mahon, Eavan Boland, John Montague and Seamus Heany.

It didn't really influence my reading habits as I had read most of the prescribed texts beforehand and had established my own views on them, but it was interesting to study the texts in a school environment and approach them with a more analytical eye. However, school did teach me how to appreciate poetry properly. And also put me off it a bit.

god, we must have been on some shit syllabus, we didnt do any of that stuff
m kind of glad i didnt really enjoy most of the stff we had to read, cause being 'taught' literature is sort of hideous. i'll never forget skipping around in the woods behind our schoolacting out a midsummer nights dream with our hippy teacher. bet you can't do that shit anymore

i remember doing some bronte poetry swiftly followed by the good old war poets. now that was INSTENSE

I'm so autistic about remembering chronological orders of things.

Shakespeare
Grade 6 - Hamlet (simplified/shortened)
Grade 7 - Romeo & Juliet
Grade 8 - Macbeth
Grade 9 - Romeo & Juliet
Grade 10 - The Merchant of Venice
(at this point, early in the year I was shipped off back to the UK)
Year 9 - Twelfth Night
GCSE - Macbeth
AS Level - Much Ado About Nothing
A2 Level - Hamlet

Novels/poems were numerous. I hated having to do Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry, because the really awful teacher made a gripping and poignant book so fucking boring. I hated Jane Eyre, but loved Pride and Prejudice (or came to love it after my initial resistance).
The worst by far though was my AS Level year. Possession (A.S. Byatt), the poems of Thomas Hardy, and Much Ado About Nothing (which was thankfully coursework so I had lots of time to clatter out inane bullshit about a play that didn't exactly enthrall me.

The Odyssey
Of Mice and Men
Romeo and Juliet
Old Man and the sea
a separate peace
Macbeth
Hamlet
The Crucible
Catcher and the Rye
Lord Of The Flies
Ethan Frome
Jane Eyre
The Great Gatsby
To Kill a Mockingbird
Antigone
A streetcar named desire
Great Expectations
The Pearl
Night

That's all I can think of.

New York

reading in school had literally no effect at all on my reading habits outside of school since 95% of the books we read, I had already read in previous years....I think in high school I read about 4-5 books I never read previously.

Actually.... never mind... only thing to ever change my life with literature in school was Antigone. I bought the book of the three famous Sophocles plays (Oedipus plays) instantly after it was read.
