Chuck Klosterman

I read his new book, Downtown Owl, last week, and I was super excited for it....but...I wasn't that impressed with it.

I normally LOVE his stuff.

Thoughts?

oh yeah i was wondering how he'd do with a novel.

i've only read killing yourself to live. i liked it pretty well. i can definitely see how he wouldn't be such a great fiction writer, though. what didn't you like about it?

DAMNIT i JUST got back from the bookstore and I wanted Killing Yourself to Live so bad but they did not have it, I harassed like 5 clerks for it.

Then I asked for Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs and guess what they did not have it.

I really wanted to read those books.

I loved both those books. 'Sex, drugs & cocoa Puffs' had a few dodgy chapters that I didn't care less about though.
'Killing Yourself To Live' is one of my favourite books ever though. I don't know. I just really enjoyed reading it, and could relate to the poor douche lots.
Which other books of his should I check out?

Yeah, I just ordered Killing Yourself to Live. I'm very eager.

When I asked the clerks there the people in the line looked at me upon hearing the title of the book. They looked concerned/horrified

killing yourself to live is awesome.

i think that i didn't like the fact that i never got attached to any of the characters. I was just like...meh, whatever. The only character i got attached to was only mentioned in one chapter of the book (as an old man's wife)

I thought that this book was going to be a continuation of the last chapter of IV, the part that is titled "this part is complete false" or whatever.

i really enjoy chuck klosterman's writing. i'm really interested in Downtown Owl but i can completely see how it wouldn't be that great..

as for IV.. i like probably 67% of that book. the rest just irritates me, and i cannot put my finger on it. i couldn't read the fictional part, it just bothered me somehow. is downtown owl similar?

killing yourself to live is awesome and is so ridiculously parallel to my life in places it's disgusting. sex, drugs and cocoa puffs makes some awesome points but it's kind of lazy occasionally. i do like that on the second page he writes 'i once loved a woman...' referring to lenore (i think it was lenore, or quincy) which is also mentioned in killing yourself to live - i thought that was quite a sweet touch.

his writing is very hit and miss. or perhaps i shouldnt say his WRITING style, so much as his opinions about music are very hit and miss. love it when he talks about metal and small towns, though. I also think that in real life, id totally hate his guts.

not reading his fiction, though. especially not after this review.
