I just read Black House, the sequel to The Talisman, both written by King with Peter Straub. Excellent books, they kind of lean toward fantasy, but still plenty of gore and malice to appeal to my sensibilities. The first one made me cry.
Yes, I know this is an old thread *and I miss CLOTTY!*
But I'm reading the Stand: Complete and Uncut and I'm really into Stephen King now.
What books would you guys recommend? I'm trying reading books that supposedly tie in with The Dark Tower series.
insomnia
gerald's game/dolores claiborne/rose madder
'salem's lot
the dark half
desperation/the regulators
duma key
i don't remember if all of those directly tie in with the dark tower, as i gave up on that after the atrociously long and trite fourth book, but nearly everything ties in with in in some way.

I read the 70s version and loved it..I would read that one first ~ read the newer version when you're ready to re-read the whole thing again.
yes that is what i'm doing currently.
500 yrs later.
oh i pretty much like it really.
but it would have been better without all this BIG SCARY DARK MAN bullshit.
you know. wtf is that shit? fuck off.
that's really just grasping for some kind of a plot once we realize there's not too much to talk about once we get used to walking around in a world full of corpses and free shit.
I JUST GET REALLY JIZZED OFF WHEN I HAVE THOSE MOMENTS WHEN I REALIZE STEPHEN KING IS JUST MAKING SHIT UP AS HE GOES. AND THE STORY STARTS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY MORE RETARDED AS HE DRONES ON AND ON AND ON.
but anyway.
it's pretty sxy. i get to read a book and pretend it's all about gary sinise.
isn't that fun?
yeah.
thanx.

I think I'm going to invest in the 90's re-write, if only to pass time at work. I have a feeling though, I'll be disappointed as I remember how fantastic I thought the 70's version was and I even liked the miniseries.
I generally find Stephen King "Hit & Miss" at the best of times. though.
