There comes a time after you've read let's say 4 or 5 of Chuck P's books where you just have to say: no more.

No doubt, he's written some good books. My favorites were Diary, Fight Club and Haunted.

But after a while it's just so .. boring. He uses the same fucking writing scheme. The cynicism becomes unbearable. The gore and plot turns aren't exciting, and are pretty much expected of him.

And the fact that he's one of theee most mainstream writers around (at least as far as I can tell... I mean, who hasn't heard of him) is something I find very turn-offish.

But what bothers me more than anything else is attempting to pronounce his last name! Whenever I have discuss him with anyone, the conversation ALWAYS starts off with "Chuck.. uhm.. how do you say it? Yeah, sure, we'll go with that."

Hmph.
I'm over him.

I don't feel like I gained anything from reading it, Fight Club the film made a much better impression with me and I love it, I've seen it at LEAST 5 or 6 times (I did enjoy the book though, I must read it again and focus more), Haunted had some really good short stories in it I just think lots of it could have been cut out and I don't understand the OVERALL point of it all. Maybe I'm just dumb though

Snuff is second next to Invisible Monsters. Those are two of my absolute favourite books. I'm obsessed with porno though (not just watching it, that industry in general) so that's a large part of the appeal with Snuff.

EDIT: Could you explain why you didn't like Invisible Monsters? I'm curious to hear your opinion.
I loved Snuff for the same reason. Although, I want to make sure that I got the ending right...at least Sheila's part...if anyone can PM me what they thought her ending was. I don't want to ruin it for anyone else.

Haunted was good, but the first story, Guts, grossed me out so much I had to put the book down and went back to it a day later. Stephen King is the only one who could make me put a book down from nausea.

i think he's a victim of his own success. I enjoy his books, i think they're an easy read, stuff is always happening and the plot wriggles itself together in a really interesting way. (fucking lol at the oft-mentioned sarge's identity in diary)

unfortunatly cause he always has these anarchic characters with manifestos I think everyone expects him to have some deep meaning. as if one of them is speaking his opinions. I don't think they are, they're just extreme characters in extreme situations.

his research has been critisized too but even if it's not true about plane companies paying newspapers to remove their ads from issues with plane crashes, it's still a pretty imaginitive leap.

invisible monsters is alright.
