| | | does reading alot screw up your eyes? i'm not sure if this is off topic, but i thought it would be helpful to ask this question to those who actually read, a lot.
i like to read a lot, but i don't do so as much as i want, because reading seems to mess up my eyesight. my vision gets super blurry after having finished a book. i don't want to wear thick ass glasses and ruin my eyesight any further.
any advice? |

| | Well, that would explain why my eyesight is so bad. I used to see the print better without glasses because I'm "short-sighted" but I guess I'm getting more and more short-sighted because now I need my glaxorz for reading. I too have often pondered about the effect of reading on one's eyesight, especially when you're wearing glasses whilst. I always feel guilty reading with glasses because I can just FEEL my eyesight deteriorating as I concentrate on the small words through my thick lenses Or maybe I'm just paranoid. I'd consider getting laser eye surgery if my insurance covered it but I think it'd be too much of a shock to the system for me to have perfect vision. |

| | | i don't think it actually damages my eyes, but if i do a lot of reading (especially if it is something i really have to focus on, like required reading for uni) then my eyesight does get a little blurry and maybe i'll get a headache. i think it's just that they get tired. i try to take regular breaks.

| | | if i spend a lot of time reading obsessively, afterward my eyes find it really difficult to focus.
but eventually they go back to normal.

| | People used to say that reading without the proper amount of light could damage your eyes. But then an optometrist (sp?) told me that it doesn't actually ruin your eyes, it just puts strain on them, which might leave you with sore eyes & a headache but not actually do damage.
I guess it's sort of a similar case with reading a lot, when your eyes go blurry i'd say that it probably means that you've been staring at a page for too long. I was told that you should have a break every half hour or so & move your eyes around & give them a rest - the same thing they say about staring at a computer screen for too long. |

| | | i started having to squint when i was reading because the letters seemed to blur and get smaller, so i went to the opticians and was given reading glasses and it's all good now. |

| | | ahem. reading without glasses is actually recommended by some opticians to those with short sightedness as it puts strain on the eyes, basically giving them a good workout, and can help stop further deterioration of sight.
or so i was told. |

| | | my vision became doubled and blurred whenever i tried to focus on print for about a decade before i did anything about it. i now wear glasses and am so happy i went to the optometrist.
i suggest getting your eyes checked. and go to an optometrist who has a certification in vision therapy as well as optometry. you know those are the optometrists who take their jobs seriously.
