| | Thanks, Llamaglama, for the list. I was mostly looking for famous people bios. I can't remember if I mentioned that, but somehow people knew that I wanted to read about fucked up famous people!
Ordinary fucked up peoples' memoirs are usually too scary and stuff. Too 'Sybil' real and scary...
I noticed you didn't have 'When Rabbit Howls' by Truddi Chase on your list. That might be something you'd enjoy reading. BUT: Tucker Max? REALLY?! That spoiled rotten frat boy played his shit out on the internet a long time ago for free on his eponymous website. His stories were only funny the first time I read them... and that was because I was young and the stories seemed shocking. His disrespect for his mother was the final blow. He's sickening and doesn't even deserve inheritance let alone earnings from his flagrant emotional abuse of her.
EDIT: I'm going to order the Dali stuff, though. Thanks!

Re: Tucker Max, I haven't ever really followed him via the internet, i just discovered his book while cruising Amazon one day, i've since looked at his website but it was pretty much the same stuff in his book. I just enjoyed it because it was something different to what i usually read & usually people try NOT to make themselves sound like arrogant arseholes so i found it all pretty amusing. I don't know anything about all the dramz with his mother? What went on there? |

| | | yeah, he mentions julian cope a bit and echo and the bunnymen, he managed both at some point. but bill drummond himself is a pretty interesting guy too. I really like to read autobiographies that mention other famous people and then read the other persons autobiography too to see both sides.
also there was some janis joplin biography I read once that had pearl in the title i think adn that was really good.
Ive heard that there is some amazing marianne faithful biography or autobiography but I cant remember what its called.

You just helped bumped it up my list.

| | | Has anyone ever read Spend, Spend, Spend by Viv Nicholson? Some mad football pools winner than Morrissey used to fetishise. Apparently it's a good read.

| | Bort! I enjoyed the Boy George bio but as I told Miss.Hindley elsewhere, he was aggravating the crap out of me near the end of the book when I felt like he was just saying: we had breakfast, we had tea, I went here, I went there... I wanted to smack him back to smack. He was pretty boring off it, eh?
George could be pretty funny though, too. I loved it when he told the story of when he had that posh birthday party and Philip Sallon showed up saying, "Hey girl, where's the food?" I could just picture Philip, all gay-Grandpa Munster-looking-like, crashing the party. LMAO!

| | | Naked, by David Sedaris
It's a collection of short stories about his family and life. It's been recommended before on this site, but I love Sedaris 100% and this is my favourite of his books so I'm mentioning it again.
Seductive Poison: A Jonestown Survivor's Story of Life and Death in the People's Temple, by Deborah Layton
It's not written particularly well, but if you're interested cult behaviour I recommend this book.
M: The Man Who Became Caravaggio, by Peter Robb
Again, it was not very well written by Robb, which was surprising b/c I really liked his book Midnight in Sicily. But I recommend it nonethless b/c Caravaggio was a really interesting person, and his life was full of murder, whores, bribery, gangs, & prisons. But I mostly enjoyed it b/c I love his art so much.
Shock Value: A Tasteful Book About Bad Taste, by John Waters
I recommended this in another thread (and I think someone said I should be pet for it? Ew kr.) I think anyone who even kind of sort of likes John Waters should read this book. He's a darling and really funny and smaht.
Here If You Need Me, by Kate Braestrup
She's my cuz. So. And I really actually loved the book. It's heartbreaking and interesting. So if you want to read about surviving the death of a loved one and learn about finding dead bodies in the woods and helping familes grieve, I recommend it. Oprah liked it lol. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
