i sound REALLY lame but i'm reading the god of small things again and i can't believe i almost forgot how much i love it and how much it means to me. and i realised that nothing except those three books have ever had such an effect on me and i just HAD to talk about it.
I need to investigate my bookshelf, and life. I can't think of any off the top of the head, but I know there are books that changed me. You know, back in the day.

disgrace - J.M Coetzee. I read it in uni and was like 'wow' I cant explain how it changed me, but it just did. i think about that book a lot.

And the witching hour by anne rice. Not exactly literary, but i read it when i was 15 and got lost in it. i cried so hard when i finished it. It made me want to write more than i already did and it inspired a whole new style of writing for me, which got me a 1st in my dissertation. yeah. i rawk.

yeah i sort of feel like that about my three. it's like, will i ever find another book this amazing again? well, no. it's not likely. so the best thing to do would just be to stick with those three. forever.

definitely give it another go.
I am eating lost flight.

Read it so much I can't count the times. Sometimes I've picked it up and only read certain parts to get me through a day.

But there are only two books that have had a mind altering life changing IMPACT on my life.

Blood and Guts in High School - Kathy Acker
Crime and Punishment - Fydor Dostoevsky

a runner up would be the Cosmic Trigger Series by Robert Anton Wilson. That's non-fiction, so although very powerful, I think that fiction can sit nearer to my heart and whisper things.

i don't think anything has had a really really intense effect on me, but so far the most significant i think have been:

crime and punishment (or really anything i have read of dostoyevsky it's luv)
the bluest eye by toni morrison
1984 by mr orwell
and yeah one flew over the cuckoos nest i absolutely adored when i read it.

i lend all these books to people at every given opportunity.

I don't actually rate it at all, sorry.

Maybe The Paper Bag Princess? I love it.

I've had nothing explicitly change the direction of my life. Some books have certainly changed my outlook and interests to some extent, but mainly it is just the love of certain books, things you can keep on a shelf and return to to recreate that mood they put you in. I have loads of books i think of in that way.

franny and zooey by j.d. salinger
one hundred years of solitude by gabriel garcia marquez
and in a weird way, maybe most of all, weetzie bat by francesca lia block

and to be totally honest, the entire babysitter's club series had a pretty damn major effect on me since they made me a total reading freak at such a young age.

Honestly, people laugh at me but "Valley of the Dolls". Its the one book that makes me laugh and cry and depressed and excited every single time i read it.

for me it would be michael azzaredd comes as you are. My mom gave it to as a present for my 13 birthday. and It was the first book i ever really read to fall asleep to at night. Also I felt a real connection with the charectors, as if i were reading my own life. I dont know if it made nationAL NEWS but my old 8 grade science teacher and wreslting coach mr.freshwater is a devoted christian and theres some shit about him burning a cross into some hands during class, its all bullshit. Once he walked over and picked up my book and said reverand whatshisface said come as you are, and he then nick named me kurt.
