| | | I only know the ones by Marjane Satrapi--Persepolis.
Are there other books like it? What kind of subject matter do graphic novels usually deal with?

| | | Epileptic by David B.
he heavily, heavily influenced marjane satrapi and got her drawing. persepolis is very good in it's own right though that's not a dig at her but I prefer David B.
The Rabbi's Cat by Joann Sfar is great. he also wrote one called the little vampire which is fun even though it's for kids.
Adrian Tomine rights some cool stuff, summer blonde is good.
Clowes, who wrote ghostworld has a lot of good stuff, David Boring is one of the most original stories I've ever read in any form.
Maus by spiegelman is a standard classic.
these are my favourites that I can think of right now but some that I didn't like so much but you might because they are highly rated and different strokes...
the love and rockets series by Hernandez brothers. Really weird, strange stories. they are great drawers I just don't follow it.
Charles burns black hole. well it was ok, it is really, really disturbing.
Blankets by craig thompson, it's a bit sooky but it's quite nice.
the one I should say you should avoid is It's a good life if you don't weaken, I was drawn to this because of the title but it's total shit. the main character is a self-indulgent tosspot and the story is meaningless.
there's lots though, maybe you want to see some of the more serious super hero-ish ones like The Sandman, it's really good.
what sort of thing are you looking for?

| | We3 (Grant Morrisson)
Fell (Warren Ellis)
Y - The Last Man (Brian K Vaughn- Currently he writes 'Lost' for TV)
House Of Secrets
Any of the Tank Girl stuffs.
AngelTown
Black Orchid
Kill your Boyfriend
Crecy
Strange Kiss / Strange Kisses / Stranger Kisses / Strange Killings - If you can stomach them.
300
Ghost In The Shell
SinCity
Lucifer - Along with Sandman and The Books Of Magic
Hard Time
Kenetic
Dark Minds
Fables - this is super. its little red riding hood and loads of other fairy tales come to life, in the real world!
Transmetropolitan - This is probably one of my Faves along with Preacher and The Punisher and The Sandman.
And a tiny 3 issue thing called 'A sort of homecoming'
But that made me cry, a lot. Even though its very short.
I Doubt you'll find that.
Most Graphic Novels come from comic books,
or are just collections of comic book issues.
If you get done with those, come back.
I've stuck to things that are easy to find there.
Also there's tonnes of Manga.
If you're rich you could collect Akira |

I collect The Walking Dead (it's a post-apocalyptic zombie comic...one of my greatest obsessions), and Jhonen Vasquez (Squee, Filler Bunny....messed up stuff). I really like Sin City & V for Vendetta.
.....Heroes has a graphic novel now!! (The television show)

| | Y is about Yorick, where a plague kills all the men on the planet except him. Which sounds ideal, but, its not really
Everyday problems still exist.
Women still kill women, life goes on etc.
He travelles the world looking for his girlfriend.
And ... thats it I suppose.
I suck at describing things!!
I do so love it though.
I also liked his 'Deus Ex Mechina' |

| | | yeah it sounds lots of fun. I like a weird concept played out like that.
i don't know a lot of the stuff you mentioned though.
I notice one book is conspicuous by its absence here.

| | I started reading Girl Stories by Lauren R. Weinstein today and it was so cute. Girl Stories by Lauren R. Weinstein!
I also read The Borden Tragedy by Rick Geary who writes about all thos gruesome hard-core homicides, which was pretty cool but a tad dry.
Also, I've dug the Sandman series. A certain someone recommended it to me and I liked it a lot.
I will check out the rest from the library later =) | |
