oh, i also started La Perdida by Jessica Abel, which is about an American trying to ditch her culture and fit in in Mexico for a couple of years. I like it, but, I could punch out the main character sometimes and it's really crammed (i.e drawings and words and spanish) so that it gives me a headache. =(

the love and rockets series by Hernandez brothers. Really weird, strange stories. they are great drawers I just don't follow it.
david boring is great, the fat ass scrap book. maus (pts 1 and 2) is fucking unbelievable. i liked all the hernandez stuff when i was a kid, but can only really tolerate the gilberto paloma stories now. jaime's pretty punk teen lesbians, it just grates in a bit of a male gazey way. have you ever eaten male gazey pie?

Yes, Maus is good. But you should get the Kurt Cobain graphic novel. Utterly hilarious. I bought it the other day, and I like it.

david boring is probably one of best characters I've come across in fiction ever. Clowes has a great short story called gynacology with a guy called Epps in it who is also brilliant. (and a lot of the stuff in that eventually ends up in David boring and Ghost world) have you read it? it's in his 9 stories thing.

velvet glove cast in iron however, jaaaaysus, that's a bit weird. actually that's maybe the most disturbing comic I've ever read.

i thought it was all eightball first, then clumped together as a book? I dunno, I rarely buy comics stand alone.

you know what's annoying me now though, there is a fucking amazing joke in that book, I remember picking it up in a book store ages ago and just dying of laughter. it's a really dumb joke. I just cannot remember what it was now and I don't have that book. I think it involved some sort of baseball story and it was the last panel.

I can't see it in front of me, so I can't quite remember. It is quite the best thing ever, mind. That's the key thing. Utterly hilarious, and totally unique. It's all you want from a graphic novel. Courtney is scary.
