Ya, I just wanted to share this ... a discovery ... M.R. James. I dunno if you like creepy stories, I do, very much, well, these kind, anyway. They are also well-read. That is, you can get them as audio files and listen to them read aloud, for free (see link). And the reader is cool ... very soft-spoken but with a little ... I dunno, crackle in his voice. And Brits got the best voices, let's face it ...
The writer was active around 1890 ... he was a medieval scholar, as well. Lovecraft was influenced by him.
I suggest starting with 'The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral' ...
