| | | Motivation I am trying to write a novel, some of it is pretty good, a lot of it is crappy, but slowly, slowly I'm getting somewhere. My biggest problem is that I'm so lazy. When I actually get around to writing some good stuff sometimes comes out, but I hardly ever sit down and write. I think most people who write have this problem, I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice how to overcome laziness and get motivated? |

| | | Likewise. I have 35,000 words. I had 26,000 in May. 9,000 words in so many months is pathetic. And that has only been two sit down sessions. |

| | | Keep office hours for writing. Sit for however many hours and write, good, bad, ugly, just write, you can edit and toss stuff out later. It will get easier. |

| | | I can't wait for the school holidays. I feel a need to write. And I won't have to have a shitty part time job to support myself... I'm gonna write, me!
I'd love for you to post some of your writing, just paragraphs or whatever.

| | | I agree with taking public transport. It's my biggest inspiration and motivation. I hop on a bus and eavesdrop on conversations and then i write poetry, shitty poetry, but it gets me in the mood to write. It makes the language flow and the ideas spring to life and then i sit down, make sure i'm not distracted and i write until i feel i've drained myself of all life! I usually come up with a page or two at least that i'm really really happy with; the rest i can edit and work on. |

| | | My town has no public transport. I miss seeing all the colourful people, out and about. Our only bus service tends to be mainly used by kids I teach. And I already know how freaky they look.

| | | Public transport inspires me in a different way. It makes me want to get hideously rich so I never have to use it again. Being in close proximity with the general public tends to have a negative effect on my mental health.

I miss it. I can afford to run a car, but I don't know that I should bother. And if it hurts my inspiration!

Some of the bus routes here are just loaded with drunks who leave piss marks on the seats, and druggies who get high at the back of the bus.

Manchester= chav centre of the universe. | The addicts and ruffians don't tend to bother me all that much. I find myself more irritated by the little old lady getting on at rush hour for no apparent reason, or the mother with screaming child who is then joined in some sort of sympathy by another screaming child.
