books that made you cry

I feel like there was a thread like this before, but I can't find it.

Books that made you cry?
Books that made ME cry:

Where the Red Fern Grows- before I read this I thought only movies and the occasional song could make me cry.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being- More dying dogs. Our dog had just died of cancer like the one in this book. So a lot of people on the nyc subways got to see me cry.
Return of the King- I don't know I don't know.
Inheritance of Loss- even though I didn't really like the book and assumed I didn't like the characters. I guess I liked the cook.

Sappysappysap.

I think there may be others.

girl with a pearl earring - there is this one scene where he walks in and sees her hair - gets me EVERYTIME. probably the most brilliant and most sad scene ever (you will only get this if your either read the book or at least the scene, it's impossible to describe)

another book was a german one called "you can't see tears in the rain". it's about this young guy who falls in love with a heroin addict. the addict tries to quit but can't and in the end he dies. i don't think it is available in any other language than german though

harry potter when dumbledore died.

umm those are the ones that come to my mind, there might be more...

The last one to make me properly cry was actually a short story in a book and it was the first time I had ever cried to a short story. It was an Ali Smith story I need to find out the title of this story because it's incredibly beautiful. I was crying for a long time after reading it.

That's a pretty awful book to read to a bunch of 5th graders in a classroom. I mean tears are bound to happen, and then it's the end of your social life.

I forgot about A Farewell to Arms. Lordy.

I have never actually cried but the closest I ever got was in The Time Traveler's Wife.

Of Mice and Men is the first that came to mind

I remember crying pretty hard when I read Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood when I was twelve. I don't really remember the story though. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Lord of The Flies (REALLY hard in *cough* chapter nine, especially)

I've cried while reading alot of books, come to think of it. I'll think of more later, as always.

On that note, my chemistry textbook this year....

*breaks down in tears*
