Emma Forrest

Anyone read any of her books? Rank 'em? Tell me about 'em...

I'm just trying to see if anyone else is a fan... And I'm about to go get the collection of essays she edited, so... Just prattling to the void.

Her name rings a bell. She wrote this great piece on Salinger, including this gem:

"We did it [the whole reading Catcher in the Rye experience] in a day. He told me that I was the most beautiful, the most special, and so misunderstood. By nightfall, I was done with him. I was horrified, not long after, to discover that there were other people, mostly young people, just as beautiful, special and misunderstood as I...Salinger is the literary equivalent of a pedophile, the child's world equals good, and all adults are fake and phony."

I love her too! And I like that Salinger snippet - very cool.

She just edited a book about women & beauty that I'm really enjoying too - it's got some celebrity essays, but the best ones are from virtual unknown-types. She's a clever girl and I'm glad there's a fan base!

Which book of hers would you say is your favorite? I liked Namedropper best, followed by Cherries in the Snow. Thin Skin makes me nervous, but I liked it.
