| | | Catch 22 - which I did like once I'd finished but whilst reading it I hated the characters, the way it was written. One of those books you have to finish and think about to appreciate it
The other two were plays
Euripides - The Bacchae
absolutly love it
Aeshyleus - The Oristea
absolutly love it and I desperatly want to see it performed

| | | Now my last three books are:
At the Centre of Winter by Marya Hornbacher. Good.
The Icarus Girl by Helen Oyeyemi- creepy but quite good.
On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan- good but rather wistful. And very short. |

| | An Unofficial Rose, Iris Murdoch Dark Places of the Heart, Christina Stead Under the Net, Iris Murdoch
I read the Iris Murdoch ones because I'm on a kick... I liked them both, very smart and observant and fun, surprising and touching. Under the Net is more freewheeling and comical, Unofficial Rose is slower and more thoughtful. I read the Christina Stead one because I'd recently read Letty Fox: Her Luck which I really enjoyed, plus it only cost 25 cents. Stead tends to be longwinded, but I liked it in Letty Fox because the narrator (Letty) was very self-deprecating and clear-eyed and humorous about everything bad that was happening to her... Nellie, the main character of Dark Places, is an unattractive, hypocritical character whose only redeeming quality might be her passion, but it's too twisted... I got so annoyed at Nellie and the way all of the characters put up with her that I repeatedly exclaimed and put the book down in disgust-- I kept wanting someone to slap her. I was impressed at how vivid the character was, but I felt almost offended that I was forced to be on intimate terms with her. |

| | | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - JK Rowling (O yes I did! I am rereading all 6 of them and looking forward to the last book in July!) Lolita- Vladimir Nabokov (another re-read, it's one of my favorite books) The Six Wives of Henry VIII- forget the author, I really enjoy this book as well and have read it numerous times, it's the best book I've come across on the subject. Very interesting.
I'm re-reading a lot since I'm pregnant and feel pukey. |

I read it when it was new, when I was pregnant the first time, Fall of 2003. I think it was new then..someone let me borrow it, recommended it as being great.
I don't want to spoil it for anyone who might be interested in reading it, some things I hated about it are plot related details. I think part of the reason I didn't like it in addition to this is the subject matter, I'll be honest, it was upsetting. I could go into more detail but don't want to spoil it for anyone. I may be the only person I've ever heard say I hate it. But I do. It was worth the read, I guess... |

| | | 1. Non-fiction, by Chuck Palahniuk - I got through this incredibly fast. His essays are as readable as his novels, and just as well-written. I love the way he's not afraid to go into candid detail about his own life.
2. Johnathan Strange & Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke - This book is incredibly rich, with footnotes and incidental detail that made me believe just for a while that I was living in a country whose history was indeed steeped in magic.
3. And The Ass Saw The Angel, by Nick Cave - Just as nightmarish and dark as some of his songs. Compulsive stuff. READ IT. |

It's accually meaningless to tell you, 'cause they're all norwegian authors, so you'll probably never hear about them. |
