| | | PLEASE READ: New Idea - Book Exchange Just wondered if anyone would like to give me some feedback on this.
I seem to remember back in the day that this forum had a book exchange thang goin' on. And I wasn't part of it, nor did I really pay attention to it, but I'm starting to think it'd be a really nice idea to start up again.
To be honest, I'm not really sure what this means, nor what it entails. I've got some positive feedback from other mods, and so figured you guys, active participants in this forum, I guess, who might be interested, might have ome good ideas.
I'm going to quote Rat Face now (I hope she doesn't mind...) Quote:
Now I have also herd 2 versions of book swaps, one where you are just sending the books to be borrowed, and then they are sent back to the original person. Or one where your just exchanging books.
Its up to you how detailed you want to be. You can have people post books they have to get rid of, or a list of books they want, or a list of book subjects that intrest them, and match them to a person simular.
I would recommend making a list of subjects people want books on.
And then you can also detail if its people giving away books they already have, or people going out and buy used or new books for their partner.
Yes there was a book swap, back in the day, in the Library room i think it was called then.
As for problems, it goes just the same as any exchange, with deadbeat traders, or those who send late, or lost packages. That all happened in the Secret Santa exchange I did. it's just a risk people take. But here it is a bit differant cause we are a community of people who knows one another.
Like I have never traded with Rubyrage, but known her well enough around here to know she would send to me and not rip me off.
So that is a plus, unless newbies come in to sign up.
So yeah, thats my input.
| Anyone who would particpate - what do you reckon?
Mwah
xx

I really wondered what people would be looking for from something like this. What I had in mind was to pair people up (with a different person if they did it more than once) and have them either buy each other or give away their own copy of a book, either their favourite book, or one they think the other would like. This relies a lot on trust - you don't want people buying a new £10 book for someone and getting an old Gouranga leaflet back in return...
Either that or people write lists detailing what kind of books they like, and others could lend or give them some of theirs that fit in?
I'm not sure - I think we could do it in a number of ways. If anyone has any ideas about how they'd like it to work, let me know. I'm open to suggestion (oo-er) just now...

| | | I like the idea of an exchange with people being paired up. Then everyone gets a book and gets to give a book. Maybe in time we could start doing the list thing. But this might be a good way to test the water to see how popular the scheme is. I'm happy to lend a hand in the organisation. |

| | | I really like the idea of a list, but I agree that pairing people up would probably work a lot better and to greater satisfaction. |

i think its just if you have a book you dont want anymore and someone else would be interested in it, and they have something you would like that they dont want, you could trade.

I think a lot of thought has to go into pairing and also what kind of book people are looking for..so some sort of listing of likes/dislikes would be useful! |

| | | Ok, well give me a couple of weeks to finish up at university and I'll get on to getting something sorted here. What do we reckon - the pairing system?
Do you all trust me, if you were to send me your addresses and I'd pass them on to the person you were paired with? Obviously you could choose or approve/have your say in who you were paired with and I wouldn't give your address out to anyone you didn't want me to. Alternatively, we could just pair ourselves up and swap addresses among ourselves... I just wonder if maybe that would be a little disorganised...?
Ideas?

| | | I think it would be good if people pm'd their details to you, like the Secret Santa. People could send a pm with name, address and book interests. Maybe it could even be a surprise as to who you are exchanging with? |

| | | I like the idea of a book exchange and am trying to form an opinion of how I would prefer to do it. I don't like the idea of just giving out my address to someone I don't know well, but then, I would definitely want to send a book to someone who doesn't know me, so there you go.
I actually have some random books I want to get rid of and it's just NOT worth Ebay with all of the fees, I'd much, MUCH rather find someone who has something I want and swap. I keep my favorite books so I don't know who'd want what I have but I would think KR would be the place most likely to have someone interested. What I'd like to do is just a straight swap if I happen to find someone interested in a book of mine who has something I'd want. Sounds good to me. I have actually thought about just offering books to interested people and sending them for free if someone picks up the postage. I really need to free up some space. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
