| | | Favourite passages from the Bible do any of you have any? I'm not Christian or anything, and I haven't even read the bible but I was looking at this website about Bible quotes or sth and I found this quite interesting and do keep this one in mind:
Matthew 5 5-6: And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. |

| | | I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Matthew 19:24.
also the beatitudes (nietzsche's slave morality)
also though shalt not kill
i confess i like these not so much as a subscriber, but as a way to poke fun at christians |

| | | well. I don't like Christians either... I mean. I don't mind people who believe in a Ben Harper kind of way (I actually love people who believe like that) but I do make fun of Christians who have no clue what they're talking about, those who are just Catholic because of "tradition" (ie everyone in my family except my parents and my sister and I!) or those really conservative ones who take everything in the Bible literally, and think it's all truth.
The bible is of course something you need to take with a grain of salt and if you do that you can learn some stuff from it I think.
But for example these people in my family, they have no clue what they are talking about. They just run to church when something's not going well in their lives.... They "believe" everything in the bible yet they've never fucking read the whole thing.... and they pretend to be good christian... (they're not. in Christian eyes they're sinful) |

| | umm.... I don't know which Ben Harper from the tv show you mean?
Ben Harper is a musician (and a really really amazing one if I may add. I really recommend you check him out. He's a great guitar player, especially steel guitar and great singer. He's got such diverse style: rock, reggae, gospel, pop, ....etc. really really lovely . Probably my favorite musician of recent times).
this is the guy I'm talking about : |

I usually repeat that when someone bangs on about how precious 'god' thinks life is. |

| | | Don't remember the exact wording, but it's something like "it is better to live on the roof than in the house with a nagging wife". From Proverbs. Took it along to Youth Group one day when they told us to all come along with a biblical verse. They told me off.

| | | i only know the ones that appear in liner notes from albums. most of them are quite cool. the one at the beginning and end of When the Man Comes Around by johnny cash is especially cool.
"and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him"
I like that "my name is legion, for we are many" too. that's cool as fuck but what it's regarding I don't know.
that all sounds quite shallow.

| | | "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?"
Mathew 17:17
This one makes me laugh, it sounds exactly what he might say if he was reincarnated onto this earth today and dropped into Starbucks for a coffee with me, though I think he'd probably drift off into some fair trade issues or something.
Also, quotes from Paul that have contradicted the teachings of Christ on every subjects incl. sex, sexuality, race, gender, treatment of women, poverty, bigotry and slavery.
example;
Paul. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
Corinthians 6:9-10
Jesus said to them "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. Matthew 21:32 |

do you not know that you are a temple of the Lord, and that the spirit of God dwells in you?
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves
Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
there are others. i'll add them later. |

1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil;
6 rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;
7 beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall | |
