| | | 1. what is your favorite movie that was based on a book?
oscar & lucinda. gillian armstrong did such an amazing job to capture the essense of the book without compromising anything. 2. what is your least favorite movie that was based on a book?
probably 'white oleander'. that film was so, so weak. the book was captivating in its own way and the film was not poetic at all. 3. which book would you like to see be made into a movie?
if it was done right, 'the unusual life of tristan smith' by peter carey
or
'the robber bride' by margaret atwood 4. generally, people tend to like the book more than the movie. tell me about a movie based on a book in which you liked the movie better than the book.
i would say 'fight club'. the book was largely pathetic. the movie was special. i think the movie has been kind of ensconced by a niche of people that i dont like but i cant say its not a good movie.
i would also say 'the godfather' by mario puzo. 5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book?
i dont even know how to answer. i am undecided. sry.

fear & loathing in las vegas. i wouldn't have thought it would be possible for it to be done, but it was seriously amazing and johnny was perfect. 2. what is your least favorite movie that was based on a book?
i agree with white oleander. the book is one of my absolute favorites and the movie was just... ugh. terrible. 3. which book would you like to see be made into a movie?
the dirt - motley crue. 4. generally, people tend to like the book more than the movie. tell me about a movie based on a book in which you liked the movie better than the book.
i like the party monster movie better than the book. i think yuo needed to really see the outfits etc and even though the book was really well written, the movie was just... yeah. 5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book?
probably read the book.

When he wrote the Godfather, he'd written two books that got very good reviews, but he still hadn't been able to quit his day job. Someone suggested to him that mafia stuff would probably sell better, so he whipped it off to pay bills.

Read the book first, because I like to have my own image of the charecters/setting. |

the thing that put me off the clockwork orange film was the fact that i had to watch it on 50000th generation copies because the film was banned while i was a teen.
i watched it too much and along with the Rocky Horror Picture Show there's NO WAY i could ever watch it again |

| | | 1. what is your favorite movie that was based on a book? Trainspottingits actually my favourite film ever
2. what is your least favorite movie that was based on a book?
nothing springs to mind...Although I didn't enjoy Kubrick's Lolita as much as I thought I would. OH! wait no I got it. Queen of the Damned. It's not my favourite Anne Rice novel, but the film version had such shotty visual effects and didn't explain the vampire creation story at all. Also, the Harry Potter films always look miscast to me and don't include lots of details that I find should be there...the third one was the best though possibly cus I love the director.
3. which book would you like to see be made into a movie? Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (The Virgin Suicides is another favourite novel and film of mine)
also Porno (the sequel to Trainspotting)
and Franny & Zooey
4. generally, people tend to like the book more than the movie. tell me about a movie based on a book in which you liked the movie better than the book.
I'm only half-way through reading One Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest but I don't like the character of Chief as a narrator and find it really tedious so far, whereas I adore the film. I think the character McMurphy worked better in the film too.
5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book?
either is fine. I really need to read: Fight Club, A Clockwork Orange and American Psycho. |

| | | I just want to say:
I adored Marie-Antoinette which was based on the Antonia Fraser biography, that I have not yet read. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the book and the film. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the Burton version specifically and the novel. Interview with the Vampirethe novel and the film. Girl, Interrupted the movie more than the film, but both are good.
I was also not impressed with the screen version of the Da Vinci Code. For me, its watchable, but not more than once. |

The Godfather series 2. what is your least favorite movie that was based on a book?
Tropic of Cancer, hahaha... Rip Torn is a badass, but seriously, there cannot be a movie of Tropic of Cancer...its beauty lies within the poetic writing not the story! 3. which book would you like to see be made into a movie? GEEK LOVE!!!! (preferably directed by David Lynch) 4. generally, people tend to like the book more than the movie. tell me about a movie based on a book in which you liked the movie better than the book. James and the Giant Peach. The movie truly was magical and the actor looked exactly like the drawings of James! Plus the ending in the movie made more sense. 5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book? Read the book because it takes longer. Otherwise, I know if I watch the movie first, I'll never get around to reading the book. |

2. what is your least favorite movie that was based on a book?
the davinci code
3. which book would you like to see be made into a movie?
wicked. its a broadway play as it is but i think it'd be interesting to see what it'd be like as a movie.
4. generally, people tend to like the book more than the movie. tell me about a movie based on a book in which you liked the movie better than the book.
dont have one.
5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book?
i prefer reading the book before the movie. there's usually more depth to it. and then when i watch the movie, i can see what they left out/how well they portrayed the book.

5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book? | 1. Gone With the Wind, possibly the only movie that I have ever liked better than the book (which was good itself). That is the first thing that pops in to mind. I am debating the Lord of the Rings trilogy....I would say Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban but the books are SO much better. Hmmm. I'll just leave it at Gone With the Wind. Or, The Shining. OHNO wait-- I LOVE Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea. I really do.
2. uh....well, I hated The Bell Jar movie from the 80's. It sucked with a capital stink. Oh and Flowers In The Attic with Kristy Swanson! barf.
3. um...it's been so long since I have read something that is not a movie, I will have to look on my bookshelf and let you know..
4. Well, Gone With the Wind, it's been a long time since I read the book, but I think the movie is on par with the book, and actually better because Vivien Leigh was the perfect Scarlett O'Hara. The actors were really good. For its time, the visualization was just really good and perfectly suited to the book.
5. It depends. I prefer to read the book first, normally. But if for some reason I get bored and not engaged in the book right away, or the book requires a lot of thought to digest and work through, I *might* watch the movie. I saw Gone With the Wind before I read it, and like the movie better. I like Stephen King's books much better than the movies. I like the Harry Potter books much much better than the movies. But, I will admit, the Lord of The Rings book is so long and takes some concentration, that I read it halfheartedly until I put it down..then when the movies came out, I watched them and they made the book easier to read for me. The books are better of course.
I like to watch the version of Hamlet with Mel Gibson in it moreso than reading the actual play *blush* |

. | You just reminded me. I know what you are saying about the book, but I like it better than the movie because the movie is kind of corny. I mean it's good, but it's almost a chick flick. I like the movie, but I do like the book better. The book probably seems boring compared to the movie? Tho not to me..I enjoy the movie but don;t relate it to the book so much. I caught parts of Prozac Nation on tv the other night and I think I feel the same way about that, I didn't like the 10 minutes of Christina Ricci I saw, but I thought she did look sort of like Wurtzel, but it seemed they did the G,I thing on Prozac Nation too. |

| | | You are all reminding me of things! eh.
Seeing as how the annotated Lolita by Nabokov is one of my favorite books ever (would you know how many references that book contains? You should SEE the annotations!)....I won't even dignify the more recent Lolita movie, the Kubrick version is just ok, the book is so much better. People think Lolita is about an underaged sexpot, but really, it's the mind of Humbert Humbert, and his love for nymphs, I wish more people would read the book.
And yeah, James and Giant Peach is a good movie, LOL.
Um....I have not read Charlie and the Chocolate factory in a really long time but I somehow don't think the Johnny Depp version is too close. It's kind of...weird. But, after watching it with my toddler and having her love it, I went back and tried to get her to watch the original, which I LOVED as a kid, and it seems so boring now. I used to adore it! But the Johnny Depp version is flashier I guess. |

Memoirs of a Geisha, or Fight Club
2. what is your least favorite movie that was based on a book?
The Handmaid's Tale. Book is great, film is a crock of cowshit.
3. which book would you like to see be made into a movie?
I'd love to see if The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood could be made into a film.
4. generally, people tend to like the book more than the movie. tell me about a movie based on a book in which you liked the movie better than the book.
Girl Interrupted. Possibly because I saw the film before I read the book, but the film gave me certain expectations of the book and it wasn't like that at all. Not saying the book wasn't good in its own way...it just wasn't what I expected.
5. do you like to read the book before watching the movie or watch the movie before reading the book?
Generally I like to read the book first, although I often end up seeing the film first. |
