| | | i have fear and loathing but i gave up pretty early because it seems the narrative of the film follows it almost exactly, will read it eventually.
i've read three of them, Solitaire, Notion, & Norwegian Wood. All fantastic, especially Notion.
I'm going to vote Dracula because i fancy reading that, and it's a classic. |

Kesh - glad to see you around. I've only read the first chapter or two of The Brief and Frightening Reign... but it's great. It's funny and bizarre, yet clear and simply written. I won't say it's a great work of art (although from a design perspective, the illustration is incredible) but I don't think that's a negative thing.
Oh, Dig For Fire, I forgot to respond to you there - I thought you'd like to see Notion in there - I'm really interested in reading it, but I suppose after having read One Flew... then maybe it's a bit soon to have another Kesey book? I really recommend you to read Fear and Loathing - I just made my boyfriend read it, and he loved it. I can't remember much of it at all - there's not much of a story to speak of and I can't forthe life of me remember the ending, but it's just such a funny read. The film is very close to the book, directly quoting it much of the time, but I (like everyone else, ever) have to say I prefer the book.

| | happy indeed to see notion
i'll be happy with anything, even rereads, except i really don't like the sound of Perfume.
A Solitaire Mystery is really the sort of book i see kittyradioers enjoying, Jostein Gaarder is great, rarely is learning a subject such as philosophy so fun and accessible, though he concentrates more on the story and less on the philosophy in this one, Sofie's World is his real educational one, probably aimed at a younger audience too.
:X i've got to stop recommending.
pity to hear Dracula is a bore :O i almost never find books boring though, it's normally the author forcing in too much story that puts me off. All these gimmicks and twists gah.
anyway i shouldn't be reading much fiction atm i've got a dissertation to do :X |

| | | I know it wasn't on the list, and I haven't even participated in the book club thus far, so who am I, right? But there's a new book out called Pink Steam by Dodie Bellamy and I've heard she's the new Kerouak. I haven't read it, but I've been dying to for some time now. That might be a good nominee for April, maybe? |

| | | Fear And Loathing
The People of Paper by Salvador Plascencia
2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck (it would be nice to have a non-fiction, too)
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis (if we're allowed, it's about 5 times more violent that the film)
But that last one on your list sounds damned interesting.

| | I've heard a lot about this but never got around to reading it, then I was reminded of it when I read Jane Smiley's book about the novel: Atonement, Ian McEwan
Of the books listed, I'm most interested in The Black Dahlia. And Solitaire Mystery, I see that every time I go to the used bookstore and ponder it b/c I enjoyed Sophie's World but I just haven't been moved to buy it. I would enjoy re-reading Norwegian Wood and Perfume. I'm curious but wary about Dracula... I think it would be interesting for discussion. |
