Oxford is quite the harry potter city- the Hogwarts dining hall is at Christchurch, and the cloisters are at New College. Now they are filming the Philip Pullman novels there too. |

| | | well, there's one by my house that's pretty cool. i mean, it has everything you can think of. looking for a rare book? got it. looking for a rare vhs film? got it. looking for old old dvds? got it. looking for old newspaper articles that date back to the 60s? got it. i mean i know that sounds so simple, but a lot of the libraries around me don't seem to carry half the stuff they do. it's so spacious and there's an excellent view the lake.
the next one isn't as cool, but i mean it works. they're a little closer, but they dont have as much, it's hard to walk around in but they do have a good selection for what little they do have.
there's another one that reminds me of old timey libraries, but they dont carry a lot worthwhile anymore.
renegade_princess, those libraries look so amazing! |

| | | i think we all want more library porn.
those are amazing.
the library here shares a building with the county clerks offices.
but it has a nice outdoor sitting area with a gazebo and a fountain that runs during the spring and summer months. you have to park underground and you can either come up stairs to the middle of the grassy area or the elevator outside the library. its quite nice.
i hate the library on campus here. its 5 stories of newness. while it does have some nice sitting areas, all the actual book sections are fronted by rows of computers, which i find incredibly awkward. so if you actually want to check something out you first must find your floor and then walk past 20-30 computers all full of people to get to the books.
the periodical section is my favorite, they have desks and reading chairs all intermingled in empty spaces among the shelves. its always so quiet and empty. i love it.
the library at my first college was nice. it had classrooms on the 3rd floor and the 2nd was the main floor, while the 1st/basement level was the mainstacks. it was fun and dank and dreary. it was one of the oldest buildings on campus, but the campus itself was pretty old 1850's for most of the buildings except dorms.
im actually going to the library today. yay. |

| | | My favourite library is the University of Canterbury library, though it's been stopping ordering quite a number of periodicals recently, which annoys me.
The best looking one (as in totally overdesigned and a waste of money) is the Otago University one. But I can't find any pictures of it.

i like it though, it has good opening hours. |

i like it though, it has good opening hours. | I had fun in the lifts at UC recently - they've got rid of the services on floor 7, and on the board in the elevator they just covered up the old list of services with a sticker. A write-on-able sticker! Thanks to me always carrying a pen, floor 7 now contains "secret torture chamber" and "mystery surprise zone". I rool.

this is my university library. its very unexciting. it does have lovely views though. it hasn't been updated really since the 50's i think, its very grim. i wish they would carpet it because i wear clocky heels and everyone can hear me coming and glares at me. they also have the most confusing shelving system.
my local library is just horrific. very under funded, poor selection of books, the computers are always being used by kids. however i'm always able to rent good dvds from there. the exterior is just disgusting. it looks a bit like a drugs den. |

| | the library in my town....... well..... lets just say they spent a disproportionate amount of money contstructing a brand new building vs. how much money they spent filling it. its pathetic.
but the new site that its built on was until recently the oldest, trashiest most notroriously illict motel in town. and it was a really bold and brazen place because it was literally exactly across the street from the only police station in town. lol. it was kind of legendary until they condemned it and tore it down. im sure there are ghosts of murdered whore and their pimps roaming the place | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
