| | | 'Mysterious Skin' by Scott Heim. Oh my god, this book is amazing. Has anyone else read it?
It follows several characters as they age, the main two characters being sci-fi obsessed Brian Lackey, who wakes up bruised and bloody under the crawl space under his house, seemingly lost all memory of 5 certain hours in his life at 8 years old, and Neil Mccormick, who, at the same age, has sexual relationships with his baseball coach. Throughout the book, Brian is determined to find out whether he was abducted by aliens in those 5 hours.
Neil Mccormick becomes a hustler and a heartbreaker in his teens, then moves to New York. Brian begins to remember the smallest of details of what happened in those 5 hours, and with the help of one of Neil's best friends, starts to get closer to the truth, which Neil holds.
So well-written, and so disturbing.
I have to see the movie now. |

| | | I love it.
The movie is also amazing - it doesn't stray from the book at all. I think it's the only film adaption that I love just as much (or more) as the book. |

| | | I read the book almost a year ago... It was definitly interesting and well written. I had to keep on putting it down though because I found it so triggering.
I still haven't seen the film yet. Is it as graphic and triggering as the book? I hope I can handle it because I really like Araki. |

| | | I just watched the film a couple days ago and was very impressed.
The way that both boys reacted to the events from their childhood was so fascinating...I mean one turned into a prostitute and the other was convinced he was abducted by aliens...I don't know if I'll read the book but this is definitely one of my favourite films now.
p.s. Joseph Gordon Levitt is a fox. I was always obsessed with him in 10 Things I hate about You, prefering him to Heath Ledger. He's also great in Brick. |
