David LaChappelle's New Book, Heaven to Hell

We are creaming our pants!!!

This is the first look at the cover of David LaChapelle's new book, Heaven to Hell, out this December, which features Courtney Love as the Virgin Mary and a very Kurt Cobain-looking Christ.

Stunning!

Ok, ive been thinking about this all morning. no, seriously.

perhaps this is a statement about kurt vs. courtney 2006. he's gone, but even in death he's still held to the highest esteem (christ-like, if you will) and here is courtney, cleaned-up (again) and very much alive, left, as usual, to drag around this figure which is ALWAYS NO MATTER WHAT linked to her.

Oh the tragic widow Cobain. Come on, this is LaChappelle, not Anne Gedes. I would say this is semi poor taste BUT it is art.

EDIT: it also has a Virgin Mary look about it, the lights, the blue. She's holding him, assuming it's prior to the resurrection. Um, those lips, though.

Must be some form of therapy for her. No big deal, it's her show...., let her be a part of it how she chooses.

P.S. I wouldn't go in so far as to call the imagery from a renowned photographer "high art," but it is ART no less. His studio, ideas, and Celluloid type of picture/painting-like format. Now hang that in a gallery exhibition, or have a museum curate an exhibit then officially it could be termed "high art." Cool busy flavour and ambient colour usage. Lots of texture.

it's very obviously a recreation of the pieta by michaelangelo. or there's definitely a painting like that, with mary magdalene (i think) holding his body

the image is very familiar

I can see La Pieta in there, she has a different expresion in that picture than the sculpture, but it's the same composure for the rest and Christ. Except I don't think the 'fro was popular B.C.

But what the FUCK is with that child? It's all Chucky looking.

And Mary never wore that much make-up. Or wore such a horrible shade of blue.

There are about a million paintings like this. It's called a lamentation/pieta scene.

Meh. It's pretty crap. I can see why people would think it's a joke. This isn't even counting the subject matter...just in general. Bad.

I take it Artists and Prostitutes has been released then?

dudes, check out the stigmata up his veins. why not go the whole hog and have the unikurt nailed to the cross using a half dozen needles through the wrists and feet, with the 14 gauge shotgun sort of tucked into his loincloth, and a crow sat on top of his head eating the shredded brain matter. with courtney all smashed and partying in that blurry fucked up glazed eyes thing she does around the base of the cross.
