i agree on petunias but i disagree on the lack of scent. mine smell wonderful. a friend came over and was standing near them and was wondering what the nice smell was and it was the petunias.

also i recommend the Wave petunias. limited colors but you don't have to pinch the dead blooms to promote new blooms, it does it on it's own so you can be more lazy. however, they LOVE water so you must keep up with this in order for them to look their best.

also, you could probably try a dwarf crape myrtle, as long as it's getting direct sun light (that's how you get all the blooms). they're drought tolerant once they are established.

also if you don't mind a non flowering plant, go for a snake plant. they're pretty hard to kill. do well with water and without it, with heat, with cold. not sure what's up with that, but when i read that, i was like hell yeah and mine is doing just fine.

i'm all about the plants that let me be lazy because i'll kill them otherwise.

i used to grow those flowers, clotty. in a pot on my balcony. i never knew what they were called.

i would think that you could grow anything in a pot as long as you keep misting and watering each day, right? even roses i bet. they have 99 cents only store in vegas (and one in henderson which i think is where you said you are living?) - i bought most of my potted plants and flowers AND roses there. and my pots and potting soil, spray bottles etc. that way if they die you won't have wasted much money and you can see if they will work out before you go and spend the big cash at loews and garden shops.

no, i'll be in vegas, not henderson.

did you live in vegas before?

i did notice lots of 99 cents onlys down there.

did i already mention in this thread that the patio faces north and is heavily shaded?

i can't remember.

anyways i guess i could also go to the garden section at superwalmart, right?

heavily shaded is good. too much full sun and these things will shrivel up and die.

no i never lived in vegas but my in laws live there so i've spent more time in that godforsaken city than i ever thought i would.
