the only part of reality bites i like is where they play some sort of Good Times trivia.

& mention alderman davis. which is pretty lvl 500 good times autism.

anyway that's the only part of that movie i even remember bc i've never really sat through it.

Watch out on lying about your salary. They can call your previous employer to verify and if they don't match, they may throw you out all together.

I have asked for substantially more money than what I was making at a current job and got it. They will want you to justify the increase, and this is where you'll have to explain why you're worth it. I know that's the part you have trouble with, but try to work on selling yourself and people will believe you (seriously, people are suckers, one employer offered me the job at the salary I requested...then called back later and offered me more money, WTF?).

it is perfectly legal to ask what you make. we have a work hotline where you can call, and they will verify my employment, position, date of hire, and salary. even reference checks for part time employees consist of pay rate. that being said. go ahead and say you make a few thousand dollars more than you actually make. don't go overboard. because you always know a ball park of what a competitor pays. but, if somebody likes you enough to hire you, they will match what you state you make and give more money. so, it never hurts to fudge a little bit.

I've been feeling the same way recently. I've used the same resume for years and just updated it every time I need to...so that's not the issue. I know I could get a better job than my current one, but it's actually making the effort over and over again and the thought of not succeeding that really gets me. Also I am not great at selling myself. And my current job is actually really really great, it's just the fact that I have to be in a retail environment that I hate. And the fact that I always have so much to do but I have to stop every 5 minutes to help customers and staff members with ****. AND my pay is appallingly bad for the amount of work that I do.

So sybs, is there any chance of upward mobility in your job? Or are you already quite high up? Because there is something to be said of staying in the same company for a long time. It's something I would look at if I could. And it would mean that you don't have to completely re-do your resume.

Oh and I keep my DVDs on a bookshelf.
