| Men without shirts - I don't get it On my way to the shower this morning, I looked at myself in the mirror without a shirt on. I was horrified. Overcome with grief and terror. I was suddenly struck with a very intense impression that it is really improper to be walking around without a shirt on. There I am, all bare-chested with my nipples showing--obscene!!!
Then I started to think about men without shirts. Why is it ok for men to walk around shirtless but for women it's taboo? I don't suggest that women should have the same freedom, I suggest the opposite: NO ONE should be allowed to walk around without a shirt, the sun glinting off their fleshy nipples. It's private, our bodies. Obscene!!
It's the nipples. The nipples are the problem. I know this to be true. Even women can walk around with bikini tops that are very small, the only requirement is that they cover the nipples. Same thing on American TV. You can show your whole breast, as long as the nipple is obscured. It's the nipple we are rightfully afraid of.
But if that is the problem, the nipple, I have no idea why it's fine for man nipples to be flashed all over the place but a sin for women to do it. Don't we have the same nipples? Nipples are nipples for ****s sake.
Does this all come down to sexism? Is that what it is, the product of a male-dominated society? I say, everyone should put a shirt on, no nipples should ever be seen unless you are sucking on them or something.
And I know of course some of the Euros have nude beaches, I know, I know. But that is not the same thing. While a woman can be topless in Ibiza or something, I don't believe women can just walk around topless in the heart of Madrid, on the subway or buying cured meats or some ****. |
