I'm talking really dorky stuff in other corners of the internets. flyertalk forums, articles about plane crashes on wikipedia, patrick smith's ask the pilot column on salon.com.
i fly a fair amount and these resources are fascinating to me. the more information i have, somehow i feel more in control when i'm a passenger on commercial aircraft. i know how safe flying is in general, but on every flight i cant help but think... what if? at least once. then i have to force myself to be occupied with something else.
the flyertalk geeks made me LOL pretty hard last week in response to a story about an American Airlines flight from Miami to Boston that experienced a rapid decompression at over 30,000 feet, due to a 1X2 foot hole in the fuselage. The oxygen masks dropped and passengers had to use them until the plane descended. Everyone was terrified but ok after they safely returned to Miami.
check out these crazy mileage-*****s responses, after reading about the incident on flyertalk:
"Wonder how many miles people got?"
"Tired of seeing your travels through a small porthole window ? AA announces new Domeliner service to enhance your travel experience on select aircraft."
"Feeling stressed at work? Home? De-pressurize with American Airlines."
Tired of handing your trash to the Flight Attendant ? Loose articles will now be whisked away, leaving the cabin clean with fresh air. *
* wig and toupee wearers should contact a FA for additional adhesive
that flight seemed pretty harrowing, until i stumbled upon
this:
Helios Airways Flight 522 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's from 2005, when a flight attendant was seemingly the only person on the plane that was still conscious at the moment of impact. All the other passengers and crew (including the pilots) were alive but OUT COLD from hypoxia - right up until that mother ran out of gas and crashed. they all died. so ****ing creepy and weird! You really have to read the wiki link to get the full story (and subsequent heebie jeebies).
depite all this ****, i think i want to learn to fly a plane!
sorry for the un-
kr thread,
kr. but something this week is just WHACK on the board, so whatever.
i'm obsessed with flying.
