that's the deal if it's unplugged. you could hypothetically still get electrocuted if you rubbed the knife up and down on the still red-hot coils, which happened to be coated with mica, and you have a ghetto old toaster with non polarized plugs and you live in a old house with 1950's electrical wiring, then you'd get electrocuted.
but i doubt you have that many negatives working against you.
