tmobile sucks *** and they were using at&t towers but then stopped so when i wanted to make a call, i had to stand on the balcony so i could get a signal. they will let you out of your contract tho.

Uses Broadcast Towers. Yup. That's why the home hand-sets hafta be put back on teh chargers n batteries smtms replaced n shiz. Which is also why those homefones sets Will NEVER EVER work if your electricity goes off. So yeah

Learned the hard way that it's essential to have an old landline phone that you can pop right directly into the telephone jack when teh power goes wonky, tornado or other weather bogusities occur, and all like that

Idk much about the 'walkie-talkie' thang except one fam I know uses them exclusively -- business and personal -- with a couple old 70s-80s landline handsets in reserve for the houses & the main office?

Chyia, thumbsup (& btw I/we've had ISSUEZ w/ a pre-paid carrier here too. I'd go back to Verizon in a minute if I could make them customize me a plan that doesn't have $$$$$garbage "features" I don't need. When I had them before, there was such FABULOUS coverage, everywhere in the lower 48 & into Canada; probs is even better now... but the $$$ was v high at the time, contracts had zero flex re "plans", n stuff sigh)

Chyia, you may get to go back. There's another prepaid carrier called Straight Talk that runs off of Verizon's network.
From what I hear they just went nationwide with their unlimited offer of voice, text and data (and I think it will be true 3G data - which means speed, video and all the other goodies)

Looks like Wal-Mart is going to be hosting the party with the retailing of the phones, and one phone they have pretty much sets the prepaid standard as of right now. (at least til Android shows up en masse):
