| | | I've decided to get a puppy in a few months..what breed rocks? I miss my dogs sooo much. I think I'm one of those people who needs a dog to love or I don't feel complete.
Also, my husband is getting transferred by his job a couple hours away so he's buying a condo to live in during the week. I think it would be a great idea to get a puppy, since I'm going back to school but I'm doing it online. (I just learn better that way and I'm not located near any campuses where it would make any sense to commute). Anyways, I'll be home a lot and can devote lots of time to a puppydog.
While I love labs and may just go with a lab again, I'm sort of looking for a medium sized dog because they live longer. I've researched a little bit and I know that Beagles are out because they are hyper and don't seem to mellow out too much. One of the things I loved about my dogs was how mellow they got at about 2 years old and they'd just cuddle with me and stuff.
Any suggestions? The other breed I've always wanted was a Bulldog. I love them! They only live 8 -10 years though which sucks. It's too hard to say goodbye that soon.
Sorry if this is a boring question, but it's the best way to find out stuff like this...opinions from lots of different peeps. |

| | | i love labs. love. why don't you just go down to the animal shelter and get a puppy from there? that's what i did. my dog (her name is puppy, lol) is a sharpei crossed with something else, and she's lovely. aaaaaw i saw her little floppyface in that cage, and she was jumping up and down and i fell in love. aaaaaw. she's gorgeous

| | | That's what I wanna do. I'm sort of broken and in the process of being repaired, and no one deserves a good home more than a dog. No one. For some reason, my husband wants to get a puppy from a breeder so he can know the whole history of the dog. I think it's because I rescued a Chesapeke Bay Retriever and gave her to my aunt, and the rescue org. lied to us about everything about that poor doggy and she died really soon thereafter. It was so painful that I think it's made my husband really paranoid. |

| | i think you always take a risk anyway, wherever you get your dog. at least when you get one from a shelter, you're giving a home to an animal that would probably have been put down in a few months... also i have a problem buying animals. it feels wrong. i don't mind paying the SPCA for shots and to get the dog spayed, and i always like to make a little donation. i just hate how animals are truned into commercial products by breeders.
i just feel so bad coming back form the spca. i want to take all the dogs and cats home with me

we got a west highland terrier who had been used for puppy farming as well as being beaten. she was so shy and timid and she will only sleep under the table because she spent so long in a cage. its nice to know that we have given her a better life
and as make sense said you're better off getting a mix. appartenly red/copper haired dogs are usually the craziest and get even worse with inbreeding. thats according to my boyf's mam who used to breed cocker spainels. |

| | | our bulldog just died, he was 10.
although he wasn;t around for too long he was amazing.
bulldog puppies are the cutest around. the only thing i would say is that they are v.smelly dogs and require alot of looking after eg cleaning their faces and bums regulary. but they're extremely friendly and loving.
other than that all dogs are great, at the moment we've got a westy and cairn and they are v.intelligent. |

They're small so they're easy to care for, but they have the biggest personalities. Ignore the "yappy" stereotype, in my experience it's not true. In 8 years of having my dog, he hasn't yapped once. They also live longer.

| | my fav dog i had was a chocolate lab mixed with a king doberman. so so so sweet and cuddly, tho HUGE. weighed 120 by 9 months old and still thought he was a lap dog.
second fav was a red nosed pit named buddy. he ewould just chill with me when i couldnt sleep at night and when id walk him at 3am, he would always chase any suspicious characters away. not that there were all that many but there was a few times he did a good thing for me, ya know?

The only one who didn't realize how big he was was Sid. Sid thought he was a little lapdog.
I'm just so drawn to another Lab. I don't know. The right dog will just come along and that will be it I suppose. The mixed breed theory really sounds right though. When I lived with my aunt, we had the coolest little mutt. He was Pekingese, poodle and pomeranian. A little white dog with the heart of a lion. He was just adorable and loving. If I could find a dog like that, I'd be all over it! He lived to be 15 years old. |

| | | i really like the havanese(they are a toy breed but they dont get mentioned as much as most of the toys or a havanese mixed with something else).what dogs are the most common is it labs-chocolate and yellow or what?when buying through the breeders which is the most expensive thats non rare the cavalier king charles or what?i was going to get one from the spca like 2 years ago and they said they rarely get toys because they are the most popular(i would assume primarily because they are small and dont take up too much space and some are nonshed i believe most are nonshed and they said alot of people get labs and other big dogs as puppys and then dont want them when they get big because of their size.you have to realize alot of people are dumb as fuck and just dont even think about when the dogs stop being puppys and become full grown dogs and if you dont have room for a big dog then dont get one if you do have room then great go get one.my least favorite thing about big dogs is if they bit you it would hurt hell of a lot more and do way more damage then a tinsy dog.on another note though alot of the toy dogs have horrid breath they are too small to chew on bones etc so usually have to have dental stuff done at the vets unless they allow you to brush their teeth. |

| | i was born when my siblings already had a medium sized poodle and she was fucking fierce and sooo playful. but i don't think i got to enjoy her so much because she got a bit defensive if i ever tried picking her up and at times i was scared of her.
butttt then i got a mixed lab (mixed with a dalmation or a pointer...not sure) but she wasnt huge like a lab...medium sized i suppose. she was the best fucking dog ever!. sooo fucking lovable and ALWAYS playful. she was also quiet easy to teach her commands and such. she was gorgeous and soo protective of the entire family. she also got along with my bunny (well theyd fight sometimes but she knew better than to hurt her). i miss her sooooo much, she died last year
so def. get a lab | |
