packing for a trip essentials and procrastination

so i'm going out of town for 6 weeks. i was supposed to leave august 1 but i was sick and couldn't pack. now i just don't want to pack. i'm afraid i will forget important things. i am also afraid i will pack too many things i don't need. this has me ignoring packing all together and wasting the weekend away. i want to leave tomorrow morning and am looking forward to the trip, i just can't seem to make myself get my shit together.

so in order to waste more time, i thought i'd post a thread and whine. and requests lists of "essential items to pack for extended trips" in hopes someone will remember something i might forget.

chargers for phone, mp3 player etc.
really, you could buy most things if you do forget them.

passport, important numbers such as banking for lost or stolen cards, friends in the area etc. extra id just in case?

comfy shoes and clothes. sweats, track pants etc. sneakers.

are you going somewhere more city or country?

no i'll be in a big city. i should be able to buy anything i forget. and i could have my employees fedex me anything i leave behind. but that idea makes me want to not pack at all. i am actually tempted to only pack my computer, chargers, a few dresses, and just go.

i sometimes bring a book in case for times when i need to wait around while travleling or even just to occupy myself when i am not in my own environment and unable to do the other things i would normally be doing

oh! i've gotten good at this. there was a time where my shoes would need their own bag.
here's what you need: 1 pair of walking shoes or sneakers, 1 pair of flats, 1 dress shoe. then account for any activities you might be doing, like going to the beach, and add to that. avoid packing more than 4 pairs of shoes if you can. i work out all my outfits ahead of time. so on my last trip, i had three "going out" outfits that i could wear the same shoes with. and if all else fails, flats take up a lot less room in your bag.

don't forget to pack the outfit you look hottest in and the one you feel most comfortable in.

oh. and underwear. or you could go commando like britney and paris.

Yes it is.

Well, it's more of a reality than an excuse. Life is shorter than you think. If you've got the ways, the means and the money... you've considered packing your shoe collection already.

If I were you, knowing I'd hit the scene (Did you mention where you were going?)... I'm gonna shop my ass off and not wear anything out of my bags anyway. Why waste the fucking time bringing a suitcase that will never be opened?

I'd just grab the essential bodily shit... you'll probably even replace that wherever you're going. If there are pajamas you NEED or a pillow and blanket you NEED... you know what your essentials are. Bring your essentials. Don't feel like spending money on your happiness is a WASTE. That's an insult to yourself. You deserve what you need to make you happy and functional.

i ended up packing a suitcase just of shoes and a few other random things. i think like 7 pairs. all my current favorites and some workout shoes.

you are right but i was being lazy. i do plan on shopping so my other suitcase is not even half full. i didn't plan, just skimmed through everything and grabbed my favorites and threw them in. all in all packing was much less painful than i built it up to be and it took me like 10 minutes! i spent more time buying music from itunes and burning CD's than anything else. just booked some hotels and flights and now i'm going to pack up the computer and get some sleep so i can leave in the morning.
