What does it mean to respect someone?
Is respect something that you give to a person until they prove you wrong and non-worthy of your...respect?
Or is respect actually gained over time?
I guess I'm trying to make up my mind, although I incline towards the second option.

When someone, some LONER kills themselves and suddenly everyone was their best friend. It's so messed up, some kid in my town killed himself and all over these girls bebo/myspace profiles it's like "OMG I FANCIED HIM LOL", think how his friends must feel about this attention seeking tripe. Respect the dead MY GOD.

I think it depends on the type of person. Some you respect right away and others have to gain your respect over time.

TO me, respect is a bit of both. Everyone deserves minimum respect kind of thing, until they do something stupid and prove themselves not worthy.

And then in some cases the respect just grows.

I don't see why Muslims should side with an ideology which calls for the destruction of religion. I'm not a Muslim, but there are lots that support his party, that's how he got elected. I know our involvements with Saddam in the Iran-Iraq war(is that the name?) went a bit further than shaking hands, but by hook or by crook he is out of the House of Commons.
