| | | ALWAYS get a second opinion so my dog has been a little loopy for the past year. monthly visits to her vet turned up nothing. the vet said she was fine, and a little old.
then tonight she collapses, and tries to bite people when they touch her, which is obscenely out of character for her. so we take her to the emergency vet, and they tell us she's broken her leg in 2 places and broken her hip. HOW? oh she has advanced bone cancer, the most painful cancer a dog can have. that's why she walks in circles whining, that's why she has outgrowths that look like tumors, that's why she's loosing her hair.
so we had to put her to sleep like 3 hours after we got there.
i had that dog for almost 13 years. i trusted that stupid vet with his opinion, but his sheer incompetance and LAZY attitude cost my dog it's fucking life.
so always get a second opinion.

I'm extending my condolences. Losing a pet is like losing a child. You ought to sue the brain-damage out of that vet. My God! How incompetent.
We lost a pet to lung cancer. The minute the vet looked at the X-rays, she knew and she told us it was irreversible and prepared us for his weakening state. |

| | | god that's awful. was your first vet really that fucking retarded to not notice cancer?? or was he just too lazy to do anything about it? either way, why go through all the training to get a job like that if you're not going to do it properly? that really infuriates me. i hope you tell him exactly what you think of him, and loudly.

| | oh man, im so sorry that's terrible, i feel your pain though. losing a pet is so very tough and traumatizing. i cant imagine having to go through that with the vet on top of it at least your doggy is in peace now.
i agree, second opinions are a MUST when dealing with anything medical. people, pets, whatever the hell. if your gut is telling you something the doc isnt, go to another one!
thats good advice, thanks. |

Unfortunately vet science can be hit and miss because obviously animals can't tell you what's wrong. But still, advanced bone cancer would be pretty damn had to miss.
I'm really sorry the vet fucked up. Losing a pet is definitely like losing a family member. Especially when you've had them for a number of years. |

| | | God, I'm soo sorry. We had a false alarm 2 weeks ago. They all but told me that it was a sure thing that my dog had lung cancer, but the tests were negative, thank god.
I am so sad for you and your doggy. Nothing hurt worse than when my other dog passed away a few months ago, and when I thought this one was going to.
I hope you are ok and I wish I had better stuff to say. It's like getting the wind knocked out of you when this happens. Take care of yourself and grieve all the hell you want to. |

| | | oh man i'm sorry
i lost my pup of 10 yrs last spring and it was tough shit because i had to put her to sleep. the vets kept her for a few days (to drain us of our money) before telling us what was really wrong. her last day was horrible. she had the highest level of anemia and had bad heart murmurs. ugh. i've had serious bad luck with vets
that same dog when i first got her had Parvo which is deadly for puppies. this other vet told us she would die in three days and that we should jsut put her to sleep. i didnt want to do that. so my aunt from mexico was coming in that weekend we told her what was going on and she brought antibiotics and baby medicine adn other "stuff" i dont remember
we gave her the cocktail and my puppy lasted another 10 years
anyway my condolences cause i know how angry and sad you must feel |

| | | that sucks really bad. im sure me saying "sorry for your loss" wont do anything good for you, but yeah. i am. i'd be lost without my cats. and dogs are even more the "friend" type. fucking bummer. wonder what yer old vet will have to say about all this.
without a second opinion, i'd still have the fear.
of herpes.

| | i worship at the altar of dogs. i'm very sorry for your loss.
we've spent more money on dog health than most people spend on their houses. it's absurd. but all you need is one day of extremely weird behavior or a close call and there isn't anything you won't do. |

so always get a second opinion. | So sorry to hear of your loss.
I had my 10 year old dog put to sleep a couple of weeks ago when the vet I took him to for a second opinion discovered a softball sized tumor in his abdomen. He had been to Dr. Incompetent just one week prior, who found nothing wrong because he never once looked for anything wrong.
I know that the outcome wouldn't have been significantly different if I had taken him to a competent vet from the start, but it pains me deeply that my poor, poor dog had to suffer needlessly for as long as he did. His last week of life was just miserable.
Anyway, I can definitely relate to what you're saying, unfortuately, and you have my complete sympathy. May your dog rest in peace. |

| | Really sorry about that
And to think that some doctors behave like that with humans too: I know a girl whose son is going blind but the doctor first told her there was still hope...whereas he already knew the kid was doomed! That's just not right. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
