| | | Lies - ever been caught? I'm such a terrible liar, which is why i try not to. But recently i told a slightly big one which I can't undo without letting the guy know that I lied to him.
I sold my old laptop, told the guy i didn't have the receipt, which of course I do, but didn't want to pass on as it has all my details on it....
Now he says the pc doesn't work. (his fault, cause it worked when he left my house, and it's been working for 18 months), but if I give the guy the receipt he can go have it fixed in the shop. So it wouldn't be right to just keep it...
Hmmm. More lies - i hate lying!! Getting caught is sooo embarrassing.
Have you ever been caught lying? |

| | Thumbscrew, lol!
Yeah I vote for "discovering teh receipt" as well. And maybe offer to take it in FOR him so that he doesn't have the personal info that's on it, if that srsly has you concerned? It would be a schlep but...??
And in answer to the original question, I am a horrible dreadful no-good very bad abominable no-talent liar. Gave it up as a bad job years & years ago. Only one exception to that: When it comes to my kids, if it's necessary for their health and well-being, I can lie like no tomorrow. Usually cause I'm so angry that I couldn't care less if the person(s) ever did find out, cause they're triflin' no-account trash to put my family in jeopardy. Fkn Grrrrrr. But those occasions have thankfully been so rare as to not even be much of a blip on the screen.
Otoh I've no difficulty at all witholding info from folk who need to MYOB. I don't lie, I just don't tell. Sorta the "We don't lie. However, the truth is not for everyone" philosphy.
Anyway good luck w/the compy situation.! Caveat emptor and all that

| | | yeah i have, and what i hate most is that i usually find out peoples lies.
i had a dog die when i was a kid, and i found out the truth about how it died and my parents still tell the lie that they fed me from when i was little thinking that i dont know. they were talking about it the other night and i was just staring at them thinking 'do you think im fucking stupid?' didnt say anything though. its just an insult to your intelligence being lied to. |

| | When I was younger one of my older sisters found a ring in a public bathroom and it was worth some money. So, in my little 7 year old head, I wanted to "find one" too. So I went in to my mum's jewelery box and took a ring. I went up to my granny's house for the weekend that night and told her that i found the ring in a bathroom (cringe) and she suggested sending it to my aunt in australia (.. i'm not sure why). So we mailed it in this crappy thin envelope and when it got to my aunt in Australia it was just an empty envelope with a hole in it.
Turned out that the ring was my mum's engagement ring I still feel really bad about it 13 years later. |

| | | lying is a bit of a game in my family. my mum once told me that in a bid to make london the biggest capital in the world they had decided to start including some of the surrounding counties (Surrey, where we lived being one of them) and I spent the whole weekend excited that I was going to be able to use my London bus pass in Dorking!
and my best friend and I have a game called the lying game where we see who can get the other one to believe the biggest lie, it is a constant game.

| | | the key to lying and lie good is to get yourself to believe the lie too. i've been around many liars and have seen them work.
also, i vote for miraculously "finding the receipt." it would clear your conscience a little. |

Just give him the receipt and tell him that, on discovering the lappy he bought from you is faulty, you turned your place upside down to see if you still have it and - lo and behold - you do. Easy peasy.
I'm horrible at telling lies, so I rarely do. I guess the good thing about that is that I can keep track of what lies I've told to whom and make sure I don't contradict them later.
I told a bit of a whopper to my work to get last Friday off. I wanted a day's holiday on about 11 days notice, despite my workload being massive lately, and my boss asked if I really needed the holiday (it's work policy that holidays have to fit around workloads, hence why short-notice holidays are hard to get). I told 'em I had a docs appointment in the middle of the day (work's policy also states that short appts have to be at the beginning or end of the day) and that "I felt it'd be better to have the day off, so as not to waste too much time travelling back and forth". She let me have the day off, but not without asking me make up that day's hours over the rest of the week (she "couldn't possibly expect me to use up a holiday for a doc's appt" argh). However, I was planning to go to my bfs at the weekend, straight from work on the Thursday (he lives a couple hours away), and couldn't be seen with my weekend bag. I had my bf staying at my place the night before, he brought my bag and we arranged to meet at a different train station (so as not to be seen travelling to his place by any of my colleagues). Then a guy from my work ended up getting on the same train as us, but this was after he bumped into my bf (before I had met him) and my bf had told him we were going to mine. Thankfully, he hasn't mentioned it, but I had another series of lies ready in case I got caught out. Stories like these are why I hate lying, so much. After the week of makng up the hours of the day off, and then damn near getting my arse busted, I bloody needed that day off to recover...
