I'd look into Queensway/Bayswater area. It's pretty expensive in lots of parts, but there are nice little hostels and hotels around too and both are located on the Tube and within walking/cycling distance of Hyde Park etc.

i am looking into bayswater. i am not much for cycling though! it's a little too twee for me. but i am looking forward to a black cab!
i found an apartment on brick lane i like so far. i like the idea of being relatively close to the tower of london.

There are a trillion little Hotels in Bayswater. That's where the 1st KR London Hotel Party took place. It's also where I work.

I wouldn't go out east. Maybe I am biased because I hate it, but I always feel like East London is super not well connected to the rest of London, especially if you want to avoid buses. You have to catch the overground and it is a ****ing mission. Plus, you'll be surrounded by hipsters all day every day.
