The Seven Dials hotel in Covent Garden is quite nice, it's about a five minute walk from Covent Garden itself as well as the tube station:

Covent Garden Hotel, London - The Seven Dials Hotel

Here's some hotels and apartments in Shoreditch/Hoxton and are all within walking distance of a bus, tube or overground station. i'm not recommending this area simply because I live here and am biased, but it IS dead boutique-y:

Shoreditch hotels and apartments - 8 hotels in Shoreditch

This is probably where I'd stay if I won the lottery, it's totally plush and **** off minimal:

5 Star Hotels London, Luxury Hotels London, Luxury Boutique Hotels London, London City Centre Hotels

Shoreditch is five minutes by bus to Liverpool Street station and from Liverpool Street it's 15 minutes by tube to Oxford Circus station/main attractions in central London.

You can also get buses direct from Shoreditch to Oxford Circus - it takes about half an hour, maybe 45 minutes if you're travelling rush hour/lunch times.
