| | | How long are you gonna stay for ? Because you're gonna be in Athens more than a week (in which case idk why a tourist would wanna do that) you're better off renting a flat cause in August most cause Greeks go on vacation and rent away their apartments. |

| | | Hi, thanks for your reply. Me and my bf are going to stay in Athens for 6 days (although probably one of these will be used to go to Delphos). I'm not sure if that's perhaps too much, but although I've heard the city is dirty, very hot in sumer, chaotic, etc. We'd really like to have time to explore all the museums (I'm an art historian!), Parthenon, etc. Just before reading your message I too had the idea of finding an apartment, but so far I din't find anything less expensive than 140 Euros per day and that is a little high for my budget (80 is more or less the maximum I was thinking to pay for a hotel room). Do you have any suggestions?
(Later on we'll be going to Lesbos and perhaps to Alonissos too). |

6 days is alot and Athens is pretty dirty and all that. Also be careful with crime. Loads of pickpocketers, robbers, etc. And don't be fooled by the old women and children begging in front of the churches in tourist-y areas. They're totally NOT greek and just looking for tourists' pity change.
Yesterday I was actually checking out hotels with my friend because she's going and there are too many people staying in my apartment there at the moment, otherwise I woulda let her stay at my place. She used hotels.com and found some realllllly cheap places like right in the centre of athens for like $80 USD a night. So if you use that or a similar site you'll probably find a good one. I'll ask her which was the one she ended up booking if you want. But if I were you, I'd book ASAP because August in Athens is congested as fuck with tourists and all the hotels will probably be getting jam packed real soon. |

| | Hey, cool that you agree that Lesbos is a good choice. That's what we've been told.
So, you live in Athens, you should then been able to recommend me some nice non touristy restaurants if you have the time.
Thanks for the tip about the hotels, my plan is to making a final decission about it on Monday. I have already looked in other web pages similar to hotel.com, but all hotels that come up just have so little character! I would rather love to find some little family run type hotel... But maybe that's just not possible in Athens, I don't know. It would be nice, though, to hear back what hotel your friend is finally picking up.
I'm from Spain, so I think I'll manage well from staying away from the pickpockects! |
