couch surfing

my friend told me about this, and it sounds like an interesting way to travel.
anyone tried it?

CouchSurfing

i think it would be fun to couch surf my way around the world. but the fact that i'd have to stay at a stranger's house--that makes me feel a bit uneasy.

here's a news article on couch surfing:

Sounds really cool and convinient since you save cash and all but I think I'd be too scared to sleep in a strangers house. I'm too convinced the host would be psychotic. I watch too many movies

My roommate and I have hosted a few couchsurfers but have yet to actually be the couchsurfer. So far I've loved it - you just need to be ready to be on hand incase your surfer gets lost in your town while they're exploring, need directions somewhere, recommendations, info on bus routes/taxis, etc. We've definitely met some really cool interesting people though. I highly recommend it.

^ that sounds awesome. next time i'm on vacation, i think i will most definitely try it. it sounds more fun than staying in a hotel, because then it would give me a chance to interact with locals. and it's so cheap!
