| | | Philly vs. DC opinions please In September my husband & I are looking to go to one of these for our anniversary. We can't afford to go far because we're doing a big trip in December but we want to get out of town and go somewhere we haven't been before & these 2 are both within a reasonable driving distance. Which would you recommend? Which has better stuff to do & see?
If we choose Philly would walking from our hotel to the majority of stuff be realistic?
If we do DC I've always heard driving there is a bitch so we aren't going to. We'll drive to Baltimore & take the train to DC. HAs anyone here done that? Good idea or no? And would getting around there without a car be easy?
Any input would be appreciated. |

| | | I love DC but mostly because I'm a big museum geek and like monumenty things. If you're into stuff like that, I'd say go. All the major things are an easy walk around since you don't have a car. I have very very minimal experience with their metro train system, but I think it's pretty good.
I spent about five seconds in Philly, long enough to see the liberty bell and Ben Franklin's grave and go to dunkin donuts. So I can't offer an educated opinion on it. |

the subway/el train is easy access as are buses that run the same line. cabs are reasonably fared.
i'm a philly pusher.

Thanks for the infor guys, I appreciate it! I think we're eaning towards Philly at this point so we don't have to try and do the train into DC from Baltimore. I think it'll be easier.
calalove, we would like to stay in the center of the city to make things easier. I like to walk as many places as possible when in a new place, I just like being able to see so much more. Is there something you think I should definitly see/do? |

I would visit Philadelphia too. I've lived in DC for 19 years, and I will never move back. It is a shit town full of transplants, tourists, politicians and the like.
Philly's train system is convenient but extremely grimy compared to DC. The King Tut exhibit has been the most popular attraction here in Philly this year. It's at the Franklin Institute. I would check out this site: The Avenue of the Arts - Philadelphia’s premier cultural and entertainment district. |

| | | Alright, has anybody ever done the movie tour they offer? My husband & I are both movie nerds, so it sounds like it could be fun. But the description doesn't tell me all that much (I assume so I don't go see everything without paying them). But I don't know if it would be worth paying $30 each.
Also, are there any brewery tours? I was trying to google it & just kept getting addresses for regular bars and I got irritated. |

Personally I would pick DC. Lots of great restaurants and lots of FREE things to do. But like another person in this thread, I dig museums and monuments and stuff. I'm the type of person that would attempt to follow the entire Freedom Trail in Boston, so yeah. Also I LOVE the architecture here. I can't remember Philly at all, hmm maybe I need to get up there soon.

| | Mount Vernon is beautiful and the a drive along the George Washington Parkway along the Potomac River is simply gorgeous. There is so much historical significance in this area that I am still discovering new things every day. Also there is a hub for cultural diversity where you can find any food or art that you want etc, we have one of the highest African/Latin & Asian American communities in the US. It is a beautiful melting pot.
DC/MD/VA hollla!

Philly is better, much better, for food, and has a couple pretty damn good museums itself. Yes, you can get a hotel which is walking distance to the things you want to see. | |
