| | | ive never travelled by boat but i used to go party boat fishing with dad and bro. thats always fun. plus they always caught good sized fluke when i puked over the side, lol.
i would love to get my own smaller sized sailboat and just travel for a year or so. with someone i love. because doing that alone would get lonely plus i think you need at least two to crew a sailboat. i so need to take sailing lessons. i think i might next summer. maybe.

| | | It's very expensive. I know a very weird guy with a phobia of planes. He is planning on selling all his belongings and travelling around the world by boat and it will cost him a ton more than by plane. |

| | | maybe more expensive, but oh so worth it if done right. the small of salt water, no sight but blue water and blue sky (with the occasional storms.. haha), no sound but the wind...
i really need sailing lessons.

| | I've only gone on ferries and sea cats before in terms of long distances, and the longest was an overnight one that went a really long way to somewhere in France, and I hated it. But I can imagine that it'd be really great to take a long boat journey on a ship not crammed full of morons and their horrible little children. When you travel on a boat you actually feel like you're going somewhere, whereas with the channel tunnel you don't really get a sense of having gone across the sea into a different country. That's why I think boats can be good, they bring back some excitement to travelling. Unless of course you're on the aforementioned HMS Moron.
I really like sailing little boats like oppies and smaller ones with sails or motors, but I never really get a chance to do it anymore. It's more fun than bigger ships, you get the sea spray on your face and the thrill of almost being hit in the head by the bar as the sail swings round in the wind
In a month or so my brother is going to be in a team sailing one of these somewhere around the coast of America (I think they start in Newfoundland) for two weeks:
It's for his D of E Gold residential and I am very jealous. But I'm not physically fit enough to do something like that. |

sssh i am jealous of your brother on the tall ships. an oppie is a kind of dinghy, right? i'd want a sail boat i could sleep on, i think, but i've been on ribs and they're fantastic for the spray and the bouncing around. |
