Finding a CHEAP holiday in Europe.

I plan on going away for a week in September with a friend. We are both students and can't really afford anything that we are finding.
Where are good (cheap places) to visit in Europe(particularly the mediterranean) for a week? All we need is a beach!
I've looked at hostels but alot have restrictions such as curfews which we don't want.

And whats the ebst way to find cheap deals, is it online or in a travel agent?

online is definitely cheapest, and once you are actually in europe, its really cheap to get between countries. hostels are what i usually go for, but you have to be careful which ones you go for, i dont think ive stayed at a hostel with any pain in the ass restrictions.

greece is good for the beaches and cheaper than spain or south of france, i would imagine.

i really liked santander and barcalona in spain. santander has nice beaches but isnt as hot as the rest of spain. barcalona is pretty much the first place i would recommend to anyone going to europe. you can get to beaches easily as well. i stayed in las ramblas (i think) and that was good.
italy fits the bill of the med and beaches i suppose, ive only been to rome and naples tho. it was quite cheap.
slovenia was really nice, but no beaches i'm afraid.

CROATIA

Montenegro is supposedly very nice as well and even cheaper.

I would recommend Barcelona as well though it's not quite as cheap.

Go to the East of Europe if you want a really cheap holiday, everything is embarassingly cheap over there. Avoid Prague though because it's cheap but it's also too tourist driven now. But you want a beach so Prague isn't really fitting the criteria!

I'd reccommend booking through Sta Travel. I booked my week in Berlin there, and for flights and a weeks accomodation in a youth hostel in the East of the city, it came to less than £250 which was very good. They look for deals on flights and accomodation, we got a promotion on our hostel of a few nights free through booking with Sta Travel.

Greece actually gets alotta tourists during September. Usually the hotels and rooms on islands are cheap but sometimes getting there is the tough/expensive part.
My friend actually went to places that aren't really stereotypical vacation hot spots last summer and had a blast and it was real cheap for her. She went to like Bosnia and like. idk the other countries. but I can find out .
I'm not sure if they're as beachy as like italy or greece though. But supposedly those tiny eastern european countries are pretty nice. poor. but nice.

yeah croatia must be really cool. My mum went there for a month last year she she loved it. food and drinks is embarassingly cheap. And often you can find cheap rooms or apartements to stay..

I once went on holiday to belgium, when I was 16, with my first bf. It was dead cheap, we found a camping site that charged about 4 euro's a tent a night. We took all our own food and went by train, I believe it cost me less then 75 euro's (this was before the euro, tho) for 1.5 week, lol. good times, eating macaroni and baked beans every day..

anyway, avoid scandanavia, its REALLY expensive. I one spent 1000 euro's on a weekend trip to oslo.

It depends on what you do. Either you do something cheap or you go somewhere cheap.
The reason for him to not come here is the lack of nice beaches.

I'd recommend looking around the web for cheap ass last minutes in the first week of September.
I can recommend Spain if you want beaches, sex and booze.
Places like Calella, Lloret de Mar, Blanes etc. are pretty good for that.
They're located a little north of Barcelona, you can easily visit Barca from there by train if you want some culture too.
Blanes also has campings, so it doesn't have to be pricey at all.
Or Ibiza is good for partying.
If you want more tranquility I can recommend the Canary Islands, less tourists looking for parties etc. and beautiful nature with the volcanoes.
They have different kinds of accommodations, and in very different price ranges.
i just returned from a week on Lanzarote, and loved it.
It doesn't always have to be expensive, just keep an eye out for last minutes.

My two mates booked went on holiday for 4 nights a couple of weeks ago. They only booked it last minute like 3 days before and they ended up getting an amazing deal - 4 night in Majorca - Self catering but the hotel was 3* and only cost them 140 quid and it was going from the airport nearest us!!!
Prob be about the same price cos Think Oct is out of season.

My friend went to Croatia when she visited me in Europe and absolutely loved it. I imagine it being cheap too. Where do you live Walterboy? Look on the website of your discount airlines (I only know ryanair.ie) they often have packages with hotel and stuff too.

I'm in England. I think I'm going to do it last minute when I'm back from working abroad this summer.

Estonia looks very good. My tourism lecturer has told me that if there are more bombs in Turkey this summer I will get a holiday dirt cheap

Wow that sounds appealing. I would like to go to Estonia. I heard it has alot of crime ... then again all the travel warnings say that. They said the same about Hungary and I never had any problems living there for 6 months.
