| | | are "cunt" and "bitch" totally acceptable words in the UK? this woman at work who grew up in england told me that the her kindergarten teacher used to use "cheeky bitch" as a term of endearment, as did lots of other people.
it's totally acceptable to call a four year old a bitch.
she said "cunt" is fine too.
for instance, is somebody stole your eraser and you said "give my eraser back you cunt" within earshot of teach, you totally wouldn't get in trouble. it wouldn't even be an issue. |

| | Some people, and even some people here in my country. I think its awful, well moreso in the presence of kindergarteners who pick this stuff up like a sponge and goes and tells her grandma she a cheeky bitch cause she loves her. rofl. Here though its moreso amoungst adults, which is fine, but my mom called me a bitch while laughing and drunk and beating her in a game of scrabble. I didnt take to kindly to it at all. I can understand other people my age but I still dont feel comfortable when a parent does it. Its kinda weird, like they are trying to be down with the kids but end up offending. haha, oh mom |

| | | hahaha i dont think theyre 'acceptable' as such, no. i think 'bitch' is seen as a semi-mild word, like you can get 'bitch' in a 12 rated film but you wouldnt get 'cunt'... 'cunt' is still the harshest swear word, imo... and if i'd said that when i was at school i probably would have got suspended, but not for 'bitch'... but then again ive worked in bars where people call eachother cunts all the time and its fine... personally dont like the word though. |

| | | No, they aren't acceptable. I guess if i'm hanging round my friends at college the word 'cunt' is used so often i don't even think about it. Like it's used in a joking way. For example my mate Liam calls over this boy and he'll call him over yelling 'Nick you cunt!'
but if a teacher or whatever heard that, liam would probably be told to leave the class. And whenever my mum hears it on t.v she literally cringes. Alot of people are like that. I do think younger people in my generation use the word to much though. I like the fact theres a really horrible word and if it's used in a spitefull way then it's really ment and you shouldn't really say it.... but i think with so many young people saying 'cunt' generally it's becoming abit stale. It's just normal to hear.
Infront of toddlers though....? That's just wrong. It's actually discusting. I absolutely hate hearing people swear infront of young children. Or any child really. Even if they've heard it all before.... it's just horrible.
children shouldn't hear things like that. |

| | | the word cunt is fine if you're actually referring to one.
it's when it's used in a derogatory way that it annoys me?

| | | Cunt isn't really acceptable when used towards strangers, imo. If you're amongst people who use it then you're probably okay, but I think there has to be an understanding there if you're actually going to call them that. It's still the last kinda taboo swear word and probably the most extreme, I'd never have used cunt in front of my parents and rarely use it amongst my friends, unless the conversation really calls for it. Even then, I'd probably only use it to talk about someone else who isn't present, and it's not something I'd address someone by to their face unless it was clear that I was kidding around.
Bitch is fairly tame. Still, I'd be really wary of calling someone that to their face unless we were close enough to understand that it's in a jovial manner. The example someone gave of board games is probably the perfect example of how I'd use it in a light-hearted way.
As for usage in front of teachers, I'd err on the side of caution and never use either. Different people feel different ways about swear words.
