Stuff to do in New York City...

So I'm a Jersey boy, but during the course of the past year I've been spending a good deal more time in New York, and while I've gotten a better sense of things than I had, say, a year ago, I'm still trying to get the lay of the land and figure out what's around that's cool to do.
And obviously, there's boatloads of stuff, so it can kinda be hard when you're not a local to even know where to start your research.

So I'd be massively grateful if anyone could just throw some stuff out there.
Cool places to hang out, go on dates, eat, have a drink, view art, museums, creative, interesting stuff, etc.

I'd be equally grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of any really solid sites that are a compilation of info on cool stuff to do there.

Thanks in advance.

I've lived in the city for almost a decade and am constantly out and about. If you can be a little more specific about why types of food and crowds you like, I'd be happy to give you suggestions. It's always good to consult The Village Voice and Time Out New York to keep up with what bands are playing, as well as museum exhibits. Both of these periodicals are on-line also. Please feel free to contact me...

That question was a bit vague, because there is wayyy too much stuff to list. If you can give us a better idea of what types of places you like I can give you some recommendations.
